5 Oct. 2002 - IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!

Yes! It's snowing. At the beginning of August they promised 25-30 degrees Celsius in September and October. And guess what - I wake up, look outside, and it's snowing *heavily* there! Ouch. I don't get it. I smashed my car a little three days ago (see sig) and now the road will be full of acident prone morons on summer tyres with a layer of snow on the road!!! Argh! But never mind, I'm done ranting ... for now.
Is it snowing anywhere else around the World now?
Are there any AF members that have never even seen the snow? :D

Hey, Heep. Thanks, but it's not like I have been away or something - I visit AF all day every day. Formula 1, Rally, Technical, and especially the Car Modelling sections. You should get out of off0topic more ;)

Yeah, I could go for some snow. I've had it with the heat for this season, after about five or six weeks of sweltering heat working down at the Bridgeport DPW (think massive, stinky garbage trucks :bloated: ) this summer. Unfortunately, the forecasted high today here in West Hartford is 77 F. No rest for the wicked yet.

I made a thread about the snow on our mountains a while ago, then it all melted and now its back with about 4 times as much.
off topic, I also just bought a highschool pass for snowboarding for $99. The trick is, A) I'm in college :D B) The deadline for 99 dollars was last week, it was supposed to be $149.

Today was BUTT FRIGGIN COLD, though... I went up to the race track for Oktoberfest today, and watched the Porsches rape the lil Jetta and I watched one Porsche take a 1:08 on a 1.4 mile track. That was sweet, since that's a fairly respectable motorcycle time. But it was COLD. I was in my cowhide leather jacket, a light fleece, 2 long sleeve t-shirts, and a tank top and I was FRRRRZING!!
I am planning on joining my university's ski club on Monday, cause I am less than an hour from the slopes from here :D

Firstly... it's still snowing here in NZ (they've even lost lots of the little lambs in Otago)!
Secondly... go to www.snow-forecast.com they have weather predictions for every resort I know of (incl wind speed, cloud cover and temperature) as well as being able to tell you where in the world it's snowing...
Thirdly... an adult early-bird season pass at Ruapehu (which has two ski areas, Whakapapa and Turoa) was NZD 249 or about USD117 this year. That takes you from July thru to the end of this month - it's even cheaper if you a 'youth.' Ruapehu is about 4 1/2 hours drive from Auckland (about 225 miles) and 3 1/2 hours from Wellington at legal speeds. I can't tell you what we USED to do a 'Dawn Banzai Raid' in case the constabulary decide to add some more endorsements to my licence...
Fourthly... I live in the North Island but ski in Wanaka. I can get a rental to thrash up TC every day for USD32 and it comes with a lift pass.
Lastly... good luck. Remember you have no friends on a powder day only other people looking to trash your stash of powder...

My understanding was that the correct term historically is 'to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.'
In the old days, British naval ships used muzzle loaded cannons and the cannonballs were usually stacked in a pyramid shape on the deck of the boat. The cannonballs in the base were held by a triangular or square brass plate with a raised lip called a 'monkey.'
At extremely cold temperatures, the difference in the expansion rates of the iron cannonballs and the brass monkey would eventually cause the balls to topple off the stack as the brass contracted far more in the cold than the iron balls.
So hence 'freeze the balls off a brass monkey.'
