Yup, musashi got a car, and I am getting rid of one. The jetta has been good to me, but it seems that every few months something comes up and I am just gonna collect my losses and be done with it. Right now my g/f is driving it as intended since she got her license. A few months back a coolant line had bursted, no problem. I replaced it and that was it. A few months after another line busted, i repaired it and that was that. A few weeks ago, it was leaking coolant from somewhere else, I dont know the source.

A few months ago the car was having rough idle, as I posted before. I cleaned the Throttle body and it helped to end the idle, a few weeks ago it was having rough idle again and the battery needed to be replaced, once i did that ended the rough idle. Now the rough idle is back and i suspect some electrical gremlin that I cant find. I also need to replace a vacumm hose. Seems like all the hoses are busting. Anyways, I owe 7k on the car, by the time I actually sell it is will be closer to 5.5 maybe 6k. I can sell the car for 10k since they seems to go for 9-11k around here and they sell like hotcakes, especially the manual, turbo ones. So i figure I would sell it, pay off the bank and use the rest for another car. So for the next 2 months i will be looking for a "new" car.

That sucks. I was hoping to have a run in with the Jetta when I take my vacation in Nov. I was going to drive my GTP and come into Miami for a day or two. Well, I guess I will have to settle for the RX-8. No twisties though :grinno: My car is a boat.

Anyways, got any ideas on what you might wanna get. A sleeper maybe?

How about a Miata to go along with the RX-8?

Thanks. I was considering an 02- Jetta as something that would be a nice mid-size car to replace the Passat 1.8t (190k) but it sounds like we're better off where we're at now. GL with selling it and hope you find something you and your girl enjoy.

Ha, no miatas, convertables are bad in miami, no protection against hurricanes and i hate them. Honestly there is nothing wrong with the engine, the engine is solid as hell, its the little things and im getting tired of it. Especially for a car i never really wanted to begin with. But as far as choices for the next car here are a few:

1) 96-98 celica GT, Mainly cause i had one before and I can pay the car off completely, and they are also very easy to work on if something happens. Plus I loved the car and so did my girl.

2) 94-98 3kgt VR-4 or N/A, I've always loved these cars and wanted to get one when I had the diamante, I could probably payoff the N/A and I can get financing if I got the VR-4 and still pay the same amount I was for the Jetta. Ive heard stories from you guys about gremlins though but these gremlins I wouldnt mind tangoing with since it would be a car I wanted to get.

3) 95-98 240SX - I'd have to find one in good condition and probably have to travel for it since all the ones here have been beaten to death.

4)MK3 Supra - Ive found these in really good condition here, much better condition than the jetta and the fact that I could pay this off in one shot helps alot.

5) FD - Same applies to the VR-4 I know I would have to finance so it wouldnt be a problem, since my bank said they can do from 93+ and I can finance about 9K like the jetta (13k - 4k) and still pay the same amount for each month.

That's just a few of what we will look at, but 2 months is a long time, who knows maybe a miracle will happen and I wont have to sell the car.......NAH

i have to agree with claw though, why do you hate the miatas? the new ones with the hard tops, are the shyt to me. i just love how they look, and after test driving one, i loved it. too bad i cant afford it doh. so much for me running the jetta in the summer, as i'll basically be down in your area for about a month except for a week or so.

im not buying a new car though, im buying used and said my budget was 13k. those hardtop convertables are '06 models.

On another note, I have found the leak for the coolant, the reason why i couldnt find it before is because it's on a pressure hose and sprays coolant through 3 consecutive holes in the same plastic piece when the rpm's reach 4k. I am going to replace it and see what happens, it is possible that is affecting the idle.

Also another note I found a 3kgt VR-4, tell me what you guys think. vr-4 link (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=217693475&dealer_id=59571181&car_year=1994&num_records=50&model=3000GT&make3=TOYOTA&make2=MAZDA&start_year=1993&engine=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&certified=&fuel=&body_code=0&search_type=both&distance=200&model3=CELICA&model2=RX7&first_record=51&make=MIT&color=&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceASC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceASC&address=33176&advanced=y&end_year=1998&pager.offset=50&transmission=&doors=&max_price=&cardist=200)

Here is an FD I dont mind the hood as long as it's functional cause they get hot under there.FD link (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=216795902&dealer_id=59453319&car_year=1993&num_records=50&model=3000GT&make3=TOYOTA&make2=MAZDA&start_year=1993&engine=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&certified=&fuel=&body_code=0&search_type=both&distance=200&model3=CELICA&model2=RX7&first_record=51&make=MIT&color=&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceASC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceASC&address=33176&advanced=y&end_year=1998&pager.offset=50&transmission=&doors=&max_price=&cardist=32)

here is another option a 300ZX twin turbo from a dealership that we insure at my office, they said they would replace the back lights. 300ZX link (http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/detail.jsp?result_car_id=215037141&dealership_view_name=greenfieldusaautosales&car_id=215036510&dealer_id=56039929)

that's only talking about the month of june man.
1st week of june should be road trip/party week. then its back to here for work, and hopefully putting in my 2 weeks.

then like the 3rd week its a slow road trip to FL, as the 'rents want to visit everyone along the way there kinda crap. hopefully i'll be carpoolin with my cousin, and we'll just make the trip again. this 3rd-4th week should be looking for a place time. and if i find nowhere reasonable, its back to wi for a semester at least, which i really dont want it to come down to.

Well your idle problem may very well be those busted vacuum lines. Vacuum leaks will cause an erratic idle. If not that, I'd check the IAC. Probably a pretty cheap and easy fix.

As far as the vr4 up there, not much to say. I love the color. Can't tell much without some more pics/info. I mean there are none of the interior or engine bay. And the description is almost none-existant. You will have to do the 120k tuneup fairly soon, so plan on putting away $500 for parts if you can do it yourself, another $300 if you plan on asking another vr4 owner to do it for you, and another grand or 2 if you plan on risking it at a dealership.

Also at 110k, there are plenty of normal things that can go wrong, check out the 3000gt FAQ for stuff to look for, such as oil cooler leaks, synchros, etc. And with higher mileage, i personally would prefer that the previous owner has decent records of work/maintainence.

Honestly, don't assume anymore debt. Get rid of the Jetta, and get your girlfriend a car you're not afraid she will wreck (I'm assuming she hasn't driven a car all that much). I'd just get a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic. The gas mileage alone will save you a ton of money, and used ones can be had fairly cheap. If you get anyone of the cars you listed, you might be spending alot of money on repairs (Especially the VR4, I lost $9K on a Stealth R/T TT in 2 months, it's that easy).

I lost $7000 on my '01 Z28 in 9 months. Yep, it happens just that easy.

Any car she drives I will be afriad of her wrecking it, Hell i'm even afraid I'll wreck it, or the RX-8 so it doesnt make a difference, I just want to get a car the both of us would enjoy to drive. I know her tastes and she hates civics and corollas as much as I do. I dont care much for gas mialage, if I did I wouldnt be driving the RX-8 or said those cars. Also I could easily spend alot of money on repairs for any car if something were to happen. Plus Civic and Corollas are some of the highest rated vehicles to be stolen and broken into here in miami and the insurance is very high. My friend is paying 800 more than I am with my RX-8 and he has a civic EX 4 door.

Well anyways doesnt look like we can get a car to finance anyways, my dad asked me if he can put me on his house as a co-owner so that way his mortgage rate will go down cause he is paying to much. So it looks like we will have to find a car to pay off right away. So out goes the list I gave you guys, unless my dad changes his mind for whatever reason. so here is an alternative RX-7 Link2 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=215060669&dealer_id=59225107&car_year=1986&search_type=both&num_records=50&keywordsfyc=&make=MAZDA&transmission=&model=RX7&distance=200&make2=&address=33176&default_sort=priceDESC&advanced=&certified=&max_mileage=&max_price=&sort_type=priceDESC&min_price=&body_code=0&end_year=2007&keywordsrep=&color=&start_year=1981&drive=&engine=&fuel=&doors=&style_flag=1&cardist=61)
