key broken in driver door

Ok,
Here's a stumper that I haven't fixed in 18 months. My wife broke the key off in the driver door a long time ago, and I have just been using the passenger door to unlock the Jeep.

Does anyone have any idea of how to get the old key out. It is in there far. I can see it, and have sprayed wd-40 to loosen it, but I can't fit needle nose in there to grab it. I have also tried magnets to pull it out, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

You can try to use a paperclip to pull it out, but it may be easier to go to the parts store and get a new door lock cylinder and key and just replace it.

being a former locksmith i can help you on this,

1st i would just take the lock out of the door, it's pretty simple to do just remove the clips and the rod connected to the lock and then try and get the key out by turning it upside down, make sure you hold back the little flap so that the key will come out

OR

if you Dont want to do that then Get a paperclip or if you have the other half of the key that would be better but if you just have a paper clip or something close than you need to get some super glue, put a drop on the tip of the paperclip ( or whatever your using) and hold it on the broken piece of key wait awhile till it gets really good and drythen once it drys SLOWLY remove the key just make sure you keep the flap open while you are doing this you dont have to put alot of glue on the tip just enough to get a bond with the key.

either one will work its just what you think will be easier for you :screwy:

Hmmmm....

Clean it real good...get the dirt off and use some brakekleen to degrease it.

Then a big fat paper clip...maybe two...or three...then superglue on the ends. Stick em on to the key. Then try and jiggle it out of there.

by the way, I got the key out with superglue and a paperclip. I could have done this a year ago. Thanks for the great tip. It took 2 minutes to get this out.
