20 years might be a bit of a stretch, but it's probably close. I'd seen them by the mid-'80s at least. They were usually found in those tiny black and white ads at the very last pages of car magazines. Remember, there was no internet then, since Al Gore hadn't invented it yet. He also hadn't invented global warming.

Still, anything you can do to discourage theft is a good thing, and may qualify you for an insurance discount. I've had one auto burglary (stolen stereo), one theft and recovery, and one attempted theft, both of the latter by breaking the upper bowl of the column and defeating the ignition lock cylinder. The second was broken up so severely that the would-be thief couldn't actuate the linkage finger. If you have a VATS or PassKEY system, keep it operational. If you have a Browning, keep it oiled and loaded.

Most of the covers I've seen are brushed stainless. While that might stand out as a big warning sign to prospective thieves, it might also present a glare problem, requiring a little paint. Then again I have the same theory about white-faced gauges.

if it is a will there is a way. so next time they use a tow truck .remember ! if they cant see it it might be still there in the morning. dam the midnight auto club.

haha yeah ive seen those kits where you remove the steering wheel too. i think im first going to get a decent alarm with a killswitch (i had that on my other caprice and it worked good) then ill get the collar.
