i know that the LT-5 was an over head cam motor, but were there any other major differences between it and every other SBC that would make parts non-interchangeable?
i was imagining my dream engine earlier and decided on a stroked 350 with DOHC and fuel injection.
would it be possible to put a 400 crank into a LT-5?
if not, why.
thanks

The LT5 was an absolute 100% clean slate design in a joint venture between GM and lotus. No parts interchange at all. Maybe the fuel filter or the injectors might exchange :)

The engine management would change over, Lotus made good use of it in their own V8 design as well.

LT5's are rare and expensive so good luck picking one up.
bit offtopic, Did GM make a RWD Northstar yet? That engine is revolutionary.

the olds aurora was a northstar rwd I believe. If my memory is wrong on that (which it very well could be) I know there are a few aftermarket adapters for fwd northstar conversions
the northstar makes 300hp with 4.6L....nothing all that amazing. Granted, the potential is there though.
I was weighing the options for building a project car, between using a northstar engine and a ford 4.6L engine. I really wanted to justify the northstar engine, but I just couldn't do it....there is waaaay more options for a lot less money with the ford motor. Too bad really

It's the other famous DOHC V8 Design, and you can find the 300hp engines for cheap.
