? Are there any diffrence in engine 99,00,01,02

I have found that in a 99 G20t the oil filter is on the passenger side on top & some hoses & some other things are diffrent from a 2000 G20t & then they change somewhat more in the 2002.
Can any one please let me know if there are major pros & cons regarding engine difrences, can we swap parts form diffrent years can we adapt newer parts to make the p11 of early years with parts from the 2002.
I drove a 2002 a 99, 2001 & a 2000 all in one day. All G20t's:D
The 99 felt a little slugish, the 2000 a little more responsive off the line.
The 2001 pretty much the sam as the 2000, but the 2002 was quicker has a couple more hp's & felt better all around more refined!:bloated:
So my ? is for a 99 can parts from other years be adapted & made to be as good as the 2002?
Than-x guy's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D

my understanding was that the only difference between the engines was 5hp more in the '00 and above... and that was soley because of the low restriction muffler/dual exhaust tips. also, the gear ratios are lower in the '00s and over i think. i could be mistaken so dont take my word for it.

I thought that the latest 2002 G20 uses roller rocker cams, similar to the European Primeras?

2000+ had the new cams...
As for differences between the years... some hoses may be in different places, just minor enhancements, nothing major.
About 99% of the parts on the 99+ are interchangable.

Thats just Infiniti's answer to a non-technical buyer as to why they had 5 more HP.
I'm willing to bet the new cams and MAF had more to do with it than the muffler... but this wouldnt be a logical answer to give most customers as most have no idea what a Camshaft or MAF is.

Hey Thanks guy's.
The only reason I was asking because I picked up a G20t 1999 pearl white yesterday & I wanted to know if there were any big diffrences, all solely cause I wanted to know how much work was going to be involved in making up to par & better than the 02,01,00.
So cams & MAF hmm thats about a little over a gran there!!!!
I will be doing the minor things 1st clearing out the lights that every one is having problems with changing the color of the cluster & bulbs, I hope to pick up my new digi cam this weekend will see how much doe I have!:bloated:
So now I have 2 G's in my garage a 1999 G20t pearl white (manual my car) & a 2000 G20t Obsidian black (auto wife's car).:bloated:
I already have noticed some diffrences & will keep you all updated on what else I find diffrent!

I'm not current on the dates of production changes to the P11, but somewhere along the way, Nissan installed the roller rocker engine in the P11. So, this has different cams and rockers (and currently there are no cam offerings for this car in The States). That engine also has a revised crank and no lower engine girdle.
The engine girdle (officially called the Main Bearing Beam) removal cuts windage losses and probably accounts for all of the 5 hp increase.

so youre saying that the mufflers are exactly the same? seems kinda odd that they would put dual tip exhaust pipes on a muffler if it had no effect. and hey... whats a MAF? :)

I never said anything about the muffler. The question was about engine differences. But, no, I serioiusly doubt the muffler had any effect. Even installing a high flow aftermarket exhaust will only add about 3 hp on an SR20 powered car.
MAF is the mass airflow sensor.

rumor has it that the 2000 G20 had 10 more HP at the wheels. someone mentioned sport compact car when citing this info. has this been substantiated?

I'm not sure about 10whp...
But I have seen dyno charts of 2000+ cars doing 124-126whp, while all magazine published 99 dynos were all 118 or 119whp.
Jason (G-Forces) has a 99 and I think his "stock" dyno chart was 123whp. This is the only 99 I have ever seen over 119whp in stock form...
BTW, this is all based on manual transmissions..

The lengthened manifold will lower power
The cam must be reprofiled due to the roller rockers
Roller rockers will add a smidgeon to hp
The lighter crankshaft will add to hp
Piston rings won't make an hp difference
Swirl control valve - not totally certain what this is
Double tipped plats? The SR20 has always come with them
Variacle muffler might help some
