Researching this very same thing this weekend; easiest thing to do, especially if you're in need of tires anyway is to put on some 32" tires.
You can safely install up to 265/75 R16's (if you're running 16's) or 31x11.50 R15's without too much issue on stock suspension.
I'm looking at getting extended shackles through independent4x.com and cranking my front torsion bars for at least a 2.5" lift.
I'll keep you posted, this is the cheapest lift I've found, but not exactly cutting any corners either.
I'm looking to do this to both my '97 Rodeo & newely acquired '02 Amigo
