On the way back from the parts store my Temp Guage stoped working... It sits on the lowest position when the engine is warm. Is this most likely the ECT sensor?

how about the temperature sending unit, which goes to the gauge. doesn`t the ECT send info to computer ?

I don't know thats why im asking. I know the guage is getting power and working itself, because when I turn the ignition off the guage slowly goes up a little bit. When I turn it on, the guage quickly drops back down to the lowest reading.

Well its not the sensor. The signal wire must be broken somewhere.

is it possible that your thermosat is stuck open? That can also show a low to lowest reading. I know it seems simple, but maybe.

I don't think so. The last time it was stuck open it read more than that. The engine is at operating temp the guage just says nothing.

Just thought I would let you know that it started working again 2 days ago, which leads me to believe there’s a loose wire somewhere. It’s too cold and wind for me to be working on the truck right now so ill have to wait.

It still be the temp sensor. all it takes is a good jolt to knock those sensors back into place.
I would at least pull it out at see if you can push the senor back and forth. if you can, then it should be ok.

I had replaced the sensor becuase the factory one was still on there. After that it still wasnt working. It just started working again when I was on my way back from lunch.
