As a Dinan Supercharged M3 driver, I dont hang out much on the Nissan boards. But I do belong to plenty of bimmer boards. Recently a thread popped up that you guys would love to see. There are alot of autoxers on my bimmer boards, and heretofore, E36 M3s have always done extremely well in their class. But recently there's been talk that, since the S2000, and the 350Z, the E36 has lost its supremacy in their autox class! Well, I guess thats not so bad when you consider the E36 M3 is built on a platform in existance since 1992!

At any rate, I love my Supercharged M3. With over 400 crank HP at 11 psi boost, and with an already admittedly great suspension, made even better by Koni Shocks and Dinan sourced matched springs, its going to be hard to replace this car with anything Id be able to afford. However, I think that one candidate may be the Turbocharged Z, whenever it is released. Thats why Im asking. Odds are it will have somewhere between 350 and 400 crank hp, 0-60 times in the mid 4s, and probably be priced no higher than the mid $40s. Thats going to be on tough cookie to beat at anywhere near that price.

So, thats my rationale for placing it on my 'to be considered' list, which at this point, is an empty list! So, have any of you guys who spend time on the Nissan boards, heard any credible information about when this might be launched? Thanks.

Nissan has stated they will NOT be making a factory production 350Z that comes with any kind of forced induction.

I even believe it was stated in road and track a while back. Nissan doesn't sound like they have any intention of making a production turbo Z,since the current engine's output is what nissan wants the car to be.

Yea, Hondatroll, that might be their reasoning. But, just think a minute. If this car went to a twin turbo, its power would most likely jump from 287 hp to around 350 - 400 crank hp. Price would probably jump from $35k to between $40k and $45k. Where else could an individual purchase a car with these handling characteristics, and this much power for anywhere near this price? I think theyd establish their own niche. I wish theyd do it. Are they afraid theyd cut into potential Skyline sales?

Ever here about the corvette z06????? It has 405 and pulls 1 g around the skidpad. If Nissan turbocharged the Z it would be direct competition for the z06.

ACTUALLY what I believe they are doing is Supercharger mods, and others, which will be availble through NISMO, can be installed by NISMO techs. and won't void warranty. Essentially it's build your own Turbo Z.

I'm going to side with boostM3 and say that they will come up with a Turbo in about 2 years. Once the Supra Turbo hits these shores and the TT RS V6 starts prancing around with some 350 horses under the hodd, it would be the logical step for Nissan. The Engine can obviously handle the extra oomph. There will definitely be a market. So why not?

Um, Nick, sure Ive heard of the Z06. Didnt you read my post whcih your replied to? I said

Far as I know, its pretty hard to pick up one of those for under $50K! Id expect a turbocharged 350Z to come in as much as $10K less than that.

IF the Skyline GTR is hitting US shores why in the hell would the turbo the Z. Thats just not smart, competeing with themselves
