Fuel Pumps and check valves

My 2001 sierra 1500 has a problem with a no start. When I turn the key on to activate the fuel pump,the fuel pressure spikes to about 60 pounds (measured) then drops to zero (quickly). I then engage the starter (or tap it) with no start.The second try, the pump builds pressure and the engine starts. I suspect the fuel pump check valve is sticking allowing the fuel pressure to return to the tank. I'ts got about 90k on this sierra. This only happens when the fuel tank is less than full!! (Weight of fuel closes it?)Anyone else experienced this problem,or know about the check valve in this fuel pump?

Same thing happened on my 02 silverado w/95k. Replaced the pump, now it works fine.

I Thought so too, so I ordered a new pump from eBay $120.00 (MU1089 Delco) fits most. Thanks for the reply.

Update: I installed the pump and works fine now.
