Fujimi MX-5 headlights, PLEASE HELP!!!

These headlights are a PITA! Could someone tell me away to install these lights? I tried gluing the lens to the chrome peice then installing but the lens doesnt adhere to the chrome plating of the light fixture! Can someone please help. I am using Elmers glue.

your supposed to scrape the chrome plating before glueing the parts, just scrape the areas that the part fits onto

it mentions in the instructions to remove chrome plating from glue areas before fixing, so check how the lens fits to the chrome part and scrape the affected area to glue

Ditch the Elmer's and use real glue. Formula 560 Canopy Glue is my favorite for gluing stuff like this. It's white glue like Elmer's w/about a gazillion times the adhesive strenght. Dries like epoxy, and clear. Wipe away excess w/water like Elmer's. Microscale Krystal Klear is also the same time of "real" white glue. Both are made for models. Elmer's is suitable for kindergarten projects. Ditch it unless you are making paper dolls :wink:

I use the canopy glue for glass, lenses, bezels, exterior trim parts, anything I don't want to risk using superglue. It's forgiving because you can clean it up before it dries, but it dries super strong.

Testors makes a clear parts cement as well. Watch crystal glue will work too. Just throw away the Elmer's and get something made for the task at hand.

I have the 560 Canopy. So I can sand away the "chrome" then use the 560. The lens will probably sit more fluch due to the buildup of the plating. I'll give it a shot. Thanks guys!

I just looked at my MX-5 kit. Can the bumper be glued to the body for painting, or are these stacked lenses/bezels not going to fit if the bumper is glued in place first?

Also, you shouldn't have to scrape the plating when using the 560. It's really strong stuff. Is there some kind of gap when you stack these pieces? Also, don't forget to paint the perimeter part of the chrome bezels (front and rear) black. Look at 1:1 pics of the MX-5 (the Mazdaspeed boxart pics are good reference); only the lamp cluster assemblies are chrome, the surrounding areas are black. Fujimi didn't address this in their instructions :nono: but they are engraved properly for you to paint it properly.

I wanted the bezel fully chrome just to be a little different. Makes it look like the LE version. Afterall, I like to be different.
