Fated to Race?

I guess this belongs here. I don't fully believe in fate or ghosts or other worldly stuff like that but I'm drawn to it anyway. Tell me what you think from this, when I was watching the Daytona 500, at the same time I downloaded a demo of Grand Prix Legends and as I was reading the readme webpage made for the demo, Darrell Waltrip was speaking of how the car's were reaching speeds of 185mph, at the same time what I was reading, said the 60's F1 cars 'reaching speeds of 185mph' or 300km/h as that phrase has become popular from grand prix.
That's true if you didn't know
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=300kmh+185mph
Now I didn't exactly come to the sentence at the same time when DW said it on the TV but it was the next sentence down and my eyes JUMPED to the line 'reaching speeds of 185mph'.
If you want proof, this was said I think 40 laps into the 200, IIRC and the webpage for the demo is here:
edit- not the page I saw but the same text
http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/grandprixlegends/Thirdparty/gpl_2004_demo.txt

Lately, I've been wanting to get into racing, more intensely everyday, and there's even one famous indy racer in my family, died while qualifying for one of his Indy 500s, I asked about him because I seem to be the only person interested in racing in my family. After this Daytona 500/GPL incident, i'm very freaked out. How could that be a mere coincidence? We're talking live TV, maybe a 2 second delay. What do you think it means?

You're making out a coincidence into what you want to be, a reason to believe that you're destined to be a racer. Or is it more of an excuse to support your wishes?

Hate to be harsh man, but thats the truth of this post. I experience shit like that all the time. She was thinking the same thing I was, are we destined to be married, hell no.

Unless your last name is Earnhardt or Waltrip, I say it was nothing more than a coincidence. Racing is something you gotta go out there and get.

the problem I have when i hear people talk about things like this is that it is then often not much more than an excuse to not work at getting something you want.

"oh, it's my destiny so I don't have to work hard for it; it will happen anyway"

Dude, just try your damnedest to get into racing, do everything you can and be pro-active. Remember, nobody gives a damn about you; you have to force yourself upon others. In other words, don't just give them your application; give it to them, then ask to speak to the manager.

If you make it, then you were fated.
If you do not, then you are fated for something else.

Its better than becoming some... accountant or something, and spending your days wondering "if".

Me for example, I am fated to become the Antichrist.
I try to do good, but people keep pissing me off. :)

As for all that stuff you posted, its all coincidence, we pay attention to what we want to. It is similar to when a self-conscious fat chick thinks everybody is insulting her, she begins to "hear" insults in regular conversations.
Ex.
Guy A says to Guy B: "I caught a big fat Bass this weekend"
but some fat chick a few tables away hears: "a big fat ass"

You want to and have an interest in racing, so you will begin to "automatically pickout" or pay attention to stuff about racing.

HAHAH @ that fat chick comment.

So none of you believe this is supernatural?

The reason for this thread is to see if you guys believe in the supernatural because this was too much of a coincidence. If you want to psychoanalyze it because I do enjoy doing this, I didn't know you could reach 185 at Daytona, till now, but I did know the 185mph remark from the movie Grand Prix, hence why I started playing GPL. I wasn't interested in the race at the time because I was concentrating on the history about GPL and...well maybe the coincidence is that every race car in all history was built to go 185mph (not necessarily top speed) but the reason I freaked was because my eyes read that line as my ears heard it. Maybe someone should watch that race if you recorded it and tell me if I heard the words 185mph but he said 180mph. Then I would believe it's a mere coincidence and most importantly all in my mind.

You still don't believe this is supernatural?

About the Earnhardt or Waltrip last name, I take pride in this so I ask, on everything else I do you can beat me up but don't touch this subject, mostly because we're related as close as I could hope but not by blood, second cousin. His name was Rex Mays, my last name, and he's got a race named after him (Rex Mays Classic). People remember him for getting killed during the Indy 500, like I said technically qualifying, but that's a race too, for position. He gives me strength and something to shoot for, and I'm glad I'm not the only crazy one in my family that wanted to race.

what the...Dyno...Rex...did anyone else notice that? I chose Dyno because I rode a Dyno bike as a kid and because it connotates to racing (Dynamometer(sp?)) but not because of Dinosaur is close to T-Rex.

You believe it now?

How about now?

I'm going to have some fun with this now, and hopefully wont be considered an asshole.
...but the reason I freaked was because my eyes read that line as my ears heard it.

Now, if you really want to psychoanalyze this you need to think about the capabilities of the brain. The brain can read 50,000words per minute. Therefore, as soon as you flip a page you're brain has already read the entire thing and stored those words in a quick temp file. Then when you read it word for word you're analyzing and making a hard-copy of the temp file at a much slower pace. So, since your brain had already covered the entire medium you're reading when the brain senses the word correlation it will jump to that line. So when you heard 185 mph, you immediately responded by look at 185 before you could even think about thinking about doing so.

Still not some supernatural force...

Congratulations, I'm related to Jesse James (The Outlaw and The Biker)...that hasn't gotten me anywhere because we're not close family.

Thanks for the breakdown of your username, I fail to see how that makes your destined to race? GT in my username stands for Georgia Tech, but I didn't go there?

You believe it now?

Nope...

How about now?

Nope...

If you want to race, quick looking for damn excuses, supernatural forces, or guiding lights. Save your money, go to Skippy school. That still doesn't guarantee anything at all. Its a game of who-knows-who. I'm lucky enough to be 18 and already have worked with several race teams to have connections, how did I get those connections you might ask? I met people who knew people, and talked and I always presented myself well. Its all about marketing yourself, I am always dressed to make a first impression, because most of these meets were at completely random times when I was making small talk.

Here's the thing, those people can only assist me into racing, to actually be a driver is an entirely different level. The best bet with becoming a driver (besides being grandfathered in by family), is money. Start your own team, that's how Igor did it. My roommate and I have already put together and elaborate business plan to start a race team within the next 5-10 years. Starting off small, and working our way up. Its going to take hundreds of thousands and its still a gamble.

Last I checked, sitting on your ass making excuses about being destined to race didn't actually get anybody anywhere.

Sorry if I'm an ass, but the truth may hurt.

Lol, sitting on my ass playing racing games. I'm in college too. I really should have said this earlier, that I know I have to start racing...to start racing but I made thius thread to discuss the supernatural. Now that you've broken it down like that, it does seem like a coincidence, but now I'm gonna go through the philosophical way thinking, what makes a coincidence not fate? Now I'm starting to that you guys believe I'm sitting on my ass and that way I dream of getting a pro ride, instead I should come back here in 10 years, post this and how I got into pro racing and THEN you can analyze if I was fated because of this little coincidence
:evillol:

seriously this wasn't meant as a pep talk thread, I wanted to talk about fate, but I screwed up the thread anyway.

Sorry if I'm an ass, but the truth may hurt.
Don't sweat the small stuff, the truth is the truth.

Coincidence - something that ironically happens. Its more a phenomena than anything.

Fate - Series of events/means leading to an end.

Two completely different things in my mind. Nice sig BTW.

Do you believe in fate?
No.
Why?
Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.

Had to.
