I have a 2000 Malibu LS 3.1 -- I ran the air conditioner for the first time yesterday and all heck broke loose after I ran it a couple of hours. Car would not start properly and the gas and temp guages went flat line. I really appreciate all the inputs everyone has given through others with the same problems. It was invaluable. Took a long time to read through them, but the real life situations made me feel at least like I had a clue where I was going. Has anyone had the problem with using the AC? I was wondering if it is in the switch or if the AC unit would need servicing.? What ya think?

Did you replace the burnt fuse?

IIRC, under the hood there is a micro-relay for the AC compressor as well.

To check the relay you can probably substitute for another with the same p/n in that panel.. just don't pull the fuel pump relay, the car won't run.

Yes, I changed the fuse and all is working again. I'm just afraid to turn the AC on again.
