Oil Pressure

My buddies 97 tsi is having some minor problems. It has no oil leak and the oil filter is on nice and snug and when he's at speed it is fine. However, when the car is idling and going slowly the oil pressure gauge drops off and the check oil light comes on. I think its oil pump but A) I don't know how to get at it, B) don't know how to test it.
so If you have either suggestions on what else it could be or any answers to A,B I'd love to hear it?
Thanks guys

I'm assuming your talking about the stock guage? If so, I wouldn't really trust that piece of crap. My guage in my GSX didn't work at all, but I had awesome oil pressure.
Also the oil pump is on the buttom right side of the motor. You would have to pretty much pull most of the belts off to take a good look at, because you'd need to remove the plastic covers.
But if the oil pump was taking a poo you would have alot bigger problems to worry about.

Replace the sending unit first. Mine took a crap, and the oil light would just flicker when I sat at idle. It's bolted into the oil filter bracket. It's a big round "bulbus" looking thing.
Just be careful when you install it. It is really easy to overtorque the sensor and crack the oil filter bracket. The torque is something like 5 or 6 INCH pounds, but check your manual to be sure.
And don't even think about asking how I know that. :)

Thanks! :smokin:
Things were getting a little stressful around here, so I thought I would take a break for awhile. Everything seems to be getting back to normal, but I noticed that there isn't nearly as much activity as there was before.
