My friend asked me to do a clutch on a 2002 cavalier. Weridly the clutch is 300$ from my cheapest supplier. Does that sound werid to you? And a shop quoted her 1800$ for the job... is there something im missingabout dropping the tranny our the side of the car and putting in a new clutch?

Mmmm very weird. When I asked my mechanic to install my clutch on my FC, he only quoted me $350... but then I just said I'll keep my money and do it myself :) $1800 is a lot of money, it could get you an assload of ass.

Yeah dude, I would get a second opinion. I dont think clutch jobs are any bigger of a job on a cavy than anything else. Man Cavaliers are gay. They are good cars, but so under engineered its annoying. Brakes typically go 20-25k miles, the suspension is horrible, and those clutches dont hold for shit. I bought mine with like 14k miles and its brakes were already on the way out as was the clutch. It still slips a bit and I wont change it until I have to, but damn its annoying.

:eek7: You sure that quote was for just clutch, or an engine plus tranny?
If its the former, the HOLY SHIZNIT. Maybe this cavvy thinks its a Benz. I just got a new clutch and new fly for my 3KGT, $450 out the door, parts, tax everything.

The cheapest clutch for my car that I've seen is close to $500. For a clutch that will hold some power your looking to spend $700+ just for the clutch. Flat rate says 6.2 hours and I dont know what they are charging there but the average is $95.00 an hour so thats $589 for labor plus $300 for a clutch. Maybe its double price day?
