...before you "street race" you might want to learn how to drive. otherwise you will either:
crash and possibly die or kill someone
get arrested and/or pay huge fines and get raped on insurance for years to come
lose constantly due to not researching what car is good to modify and because you can't drive worth shit. if there is money on the line you will be one poor SOB...
other than ICE and good acceleration...what are you looking for? manual or auto? awd, fwd, rwd? turbo, sc or n/a? domestic or import? 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder or 8 cylinder? do you want the newest car you can get for that much money or the fastest car you can get? are you or do you know a good mechanic if the car is unreliable?
I suggest you get a beater to learn to drive stick, then buy a better and faster car once you are older and know how to drive and fix simple stuff that breaks.
welcome to the forums and read as much as you can before you throw away all your money on a car you might not like.

Just WHO the hell do you think your going to be street racing? Learn to drive and start doing autocross on the weekends once you can. Or you can do what you want and dorifto your car around a light pole.

:nono: movin' a little fast aren't we son?
Just buy a 92 saturn. they're slow, basically made of plastic, easy to drive, one of the worst street racing cars you can buy, and when you're REALLY ready to get into racing, decent beginner cars for the autocross track.

To be honest with you though, I'll give you what you want to hear. A good first car also can be a good street racing car is a CRX, Civic, Integra, 2G Eclipse. The B18C1 (Integra GS-R), and the 4G63 (2G Eclipse) engines are really good engines. Either one of thoes car would suite you just fine. All are good cars and all are great platforms to start your project. But do drive safe and don't do anything you wouldn't want to tell your mom about.
