Hi,
I borrowed my Dad's Cherokee to get through the recent snow storm here in the fozen north. It ran great all the way to work only to quit in the parking lot! It's a 93 so I was able to pull trouble code 11 (No ignition reference signal detected during cranking (bad Hall effect) OR timing belt skipped one or more teeth; OR loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. Can cause the engine to stop working entirely with no limp-home mode. (thanks to allpar.com for that information)) out of the PCM. After three days AAA finally got around to dispatching a tow truck to bring it home. Once the truck was home I jumped on to this forum for information on the cause. I soon found out the Crankshaft Position sensor was a prime suspect, where it was, and the best way to get it out. I'm happy to say that aside from nearly getting frostbite from working out in the cold I successfully replaced the sensor and the Jeep fired right up!
I wanted to say "Thanks!" for the helpful information posted here.
Best regards,
John :)
