I'm bringing the old WIP thread back by numerous requests. Since the conversion was started in 2005 (almost 2 years ago!) I'm not going to re-write the process comments, I will jsut post the pictures, if you have any questions - feel free to ask and I will try to answer the best I can.
As soon as there will be more progress, I'll update the thread. Here is what I have done so far:

Absolutely stunning! What brand of wheels are you using? I notice you have two sets of resin wheels, one of which is obviously smaller than the other. I know there are a few different brands (Renaissance, etc) available, but which ones are the larger and I assume more accurate?
Cheers,
Grant.

You're back Alex!
1) I've attached the same transkit as you, and modified the lower rear bumper. BUT, how are you going to fit the chassis? I think the transkit front bumper interferes with the chassis edge. So does the rear modifications.
2) What paint did use for the brake disks (__?__ over black)?
3) Are you going to build a 550/575 or 612 soon?

The bigger ones are SAS, the smaller ones are Speedline. Both great seats of wheels, but Speedline are way too small for CS.

1) I re-worked the front bumper and rear lower chassis to fit. No problems.
2) Black, followed by MM Titanium metalizer.
3) Not anytime soon. :-)

Thanks for resurecting this thread.
What brakes are you using?
Are you using a photoetch set?
What did you glue the clear strips on the side window with?
What brand of carbon fiber are you using?
I really like the a/c vent treatment.
Thanks for sharing Alex.
Mike.

good to see this thread back, 2 years ago when I first saw this and had the same msm kit, I felt that I couldn't build my 360 with msm trans kit as good as yours, but your build has inspired me to try again with mine for the 60th anniv. gb up here. Excellent work on this, and thanks for bringing it back...

Carpets? You mean floor mats?
They are made of black paper embossed with burnishing tool.

Good to see this again.
So, how did you cut the PE grill for the challenge rear?
I've got the same mesh, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to cut and trim it without destroying it.

Sorry, more specifically whats behind the mesh? masking tape? uhhh.....? paper? I recently saw some pics of the rear of a stradale that inspired a new idea. i cust out the sections with the lenses and cust out a small portion right in middle. that should give me shape and a place for tail lights as well as leave an inch on each side to see into engine bay.

I see the last post in this thread is dated June 2007 – that is over a year ago! In fact, this model has been started in April 2005 – almost 3 1/5 years. Funny how some of the posters in this thread don’t even visit the site anymore…
Anyway, the time has come for another update. Yes, I’m still working on it! After my injuries last year, and some changes in my life I haven’t picked my Exacto since December 2007. So I’m very glad to break this spell, and excited to present you the latest update on brutal Challenge Stradale.
Started with exhaust system – muffler was reworked as shown earlier, and then I made the pipes using aluminum wire and some sheet styrene. Everything was puttied, sanded, test fitted, and adjusted to fit the chassis and engine frame.
Everything was primed, painted and weathered. Coat of MM stainless steel buffing metalizer was followed by Alclad white aluminum, then accented with MM burnt metal. Paint was lightly scraped from places to revel original tamiya chrome plating for worn effect.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/Tamiya%20360%20CS/03.jpg
Few things were covered with C/F, kit wipers replaced with P/E from parts box (I cut only the blades, left the arms from the kit), various mesh and little bits were painted too.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/Tamiya%20360%20CS/04.jpg
Next were airboxes. They were reshaped, puttied, sanded, etc. 360 Modena airboxes are indented, CS’s are ribbed, and so I had to add ribs to the boxes. Finally they were decaled, painted, and wired.

Engine block was assembled, wired, and plumbed (partially). I decided not to do anything to the belts since they will be invisible anyway – I just detail painted them. Added fuel rails and injectors, oil lines, and braided lines for the transmission.

Cam covers and fluid reservoirs were also painted and detailed. Used tome of Gio’s P/E for the MAF meters (thanks Gio), and added P/E to the fluid caps.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/Tamiya%20360%20CS/14.jpg
Little Cavallino emblem on top of the cam covers was covered with C/F and P/E badge. Plastic rivets were sanded off and replaced with some Scale Hardware rivets for more realism. Engine bay walls were covered with C/F and fluid bottle was detailed and wired. Chassis was lined with some heat shielding (MFH).

Yeah...now I have to put everything together without screwing up - this is more important than building the rest of the subassemblies! There is quite a bit of small things that I have to finish before the assembly though. Updates are coming soon - watch this thread.

Didn’t expect an update so quick? ☺ Well, here it is!
I was not completely satisfied with how my sliding side windows turned out, so I decided to go ahead and re-do them. Instead of replacing the side window with a piece of clear plastic, I just cut the hole in the kit piece. This way it will be easier to make the sliding mechanism (it is actually working!), and the window will not flex when I glue it in the body. Here is how I did this:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProg1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProg2.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProg4.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProgr1.jpg
Stradale don’t have rear window defrost, so I had to sand it off from the kit part and then polish the glass back with 3M polish. I also attached heat shielding to the lid, Ferrari badge, strut bars, and third taillight:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProg3.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProgr3.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProgr4.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProgr2.jpg
After windows were glued to the body, and entire bodyshel painted flat black inside, I attached headliner and rearview mirror. Side mirrors and their pods were covered with C/F:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProgr5.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/10-1.jpg
Few pictures of the complete chassis before installation into the body. I have faced few problems with fit at this stage since rear wheel arches would not fit, and won’t let me install the chassis correctly. Har to do some minor trimming here and there and few light touchups. It is always hard to work when you have everything assembled and painted, and then need to mod – easy to knock something off or scrape the paint.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProgre2.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/jter/CSProgre3.jpg
But everything turned out well in the end, and after adding few small details on the body, the car is now FINALLY (3 1/5 years in the making) is completed, polished, waxed and sealed in its case. Enjoy!

Great job, as usual. Definitely a conversion that requires a fair amount of work. Too much for me that I sold mine after I had spent hours upon hours properly attaching the front bumper and filling/scribing the joint.
Where do you get your engine bay decals? You always seem to have little silver Ferrari plaques in the engine compartment that I know aren't supplied in the kit. Thanks!

Actually, the I think the windows turned out only ok. But it is really hard to work with clear plastic, and not to scratch or mar it. The guides are glued with CA glue (yes - hazing anyone), but that is the only way. Real guides attached in 4 points along the guide with plastic rivets - i just used tiny drops of CA glue and hoped that it won't haze - it did not, but some of them don't look too accurate. I will actually attempt drilling the glass and making actual rivets next time. Still, I'm satisfied with the end result. Thanks!

No - what would that accomplish? Future is not a glue, I needed a very strong bond there. Otherwise the sliding window would just pop the guides off. Real rivets is the way to do it, but I only realized it now.
