I would like to know if you can hear the VTEC kick in or by looking at the RPM's and tell it's kicking in? I tried to listen but my car is way to loud to hear the engine and the RPM's from 5k to 6.5k doesn't seem to get up any faster than it would say from 4k to 5.5k..
Am I expecting to much or is there a way to see if it's working?

Generally its pretty seamless but you can hear it if you know what you are looking for. I have recently heard some examples of cars that really come alive once they switch over.

Dont you have an si? The si doesnt use the same engine as the other model civics....far from it. The k20a3 doesnt really have a true vtec. Instead it basicaly has an economy mode at 2200 (i think) rpms and below. It closes one of the intake valves at 2200rpms and lower to lower fuel consumption. If you want to kind of feel what its doing next time your at a dead stop pay attention to how the car picks up in first gear after 2200 rpms (you dont have to floor it to notice it). Sorry to dissapoint you but no vtec for you.

I tried looking for the vtec silenoid (my spelling sux, I know) and no luck.. It says it's on the back right side of the block on the timing chain side but that's like alien to me.. This is my first Honda.. If I'm looking at the engine is it on the passenger side or driver side of the engine? I want to clean the filter and hook up a light so I know when the Vtec is on (yes I know childish but hey it'll look neat)... If and when I find it which wire is the positive?

Theres no point in hooking up a light on the si. Basically unless your stopped at a red light the light will be on.
