Who would win?

So some kid asked me to race today, and even though my car isnt anywhere near "race ready" i agreed to it. It turns out he drives a late 80's possibly very early 90's cadillac. Im not sure what model it is, but its looks horrible, has 4 doors, and it has a 4.5 litre v8. He was talking all kinds of smack, saying about how he has huge v8 and he'll smoke my little performance induction whatever civic. will a 4.5 litre v8 in a 3500+ pound car beat my 1.6 litre 2300 pound car? I tried looking at some older cadillacs and i found a 155 horsepower 4.5 litre v8.... which makes me want to laugh in his face if it wasnt for the 240 lbs tq. I also saw a 200 horsepower 4.9 litre, but im pretty sure he said it was 4.5, not positive though. Oh yeh, he said something about how he has a bad tranny too. I have a 98 civic ex coupe with aem cai. Is there any way he can possibly win if i drive well? If not, i might as well make $50 of this haha.

well basically your goin to be racing the asme thing as my friend. even though it has 155hp. he'll leave you. that car has no start lag. even with my S14 i beat it by 2 cars. adn that thing raced my friends jetta 1.8T. and he smoked that 1.8 turbo by 2 cars. some kid in my friends GED class tried to pick on his caddy with a civic and he tried to cut him off. then all he had to do was just floor it and he left him like he was standing still. sorry to say it man. but civics are really slow esp in automatic. if your civic is stock and its a auto. i think he'll beat you by 5 cars. easy. my friends caddy launches soo hard by just stepping on the gas it chirps his tires, and when it shifts to second gear it chirps goin to second. and this is a automatic!!! basically how it works is becasue the older domestic throttle bodies have mechanical kick downs. so as soon as he steps on the gas, the tranny would be locks. and be ready to roll. non of that slushy automatic tranny lag here.

i have a manual. This kid says his tranny is bad too. I dont know man, i'll let you know how it turns it. I just don't see how he could possuibly beat me with 155 horses and more than 1000 pounds heavier. Maybe those guys you knew raced the 4.9 litre 200 horsepower caddy, i would say id definitly lose to that. I've also raced a pontiac bonneville that weighs a little less than the caddy but has 180 horsepower and a lower torque figure. The only time we actually raced (like lined up, no passengers) i beat him, but hes beaten me when i had passengers and stuff. He claims he can beat me if he takes off overdrive... does the caddy have an overdrive option?

My car isnt stock, not like it matters much but i have an aem cai. I also plan on running on an almost empty tank with lower tire pressure. My tires are brand new, but nothing special, and his are nearly bald. It also looks like his rear suspension is like no existant, cause it sags really bad. this kid doesnt know shit about racing so he wont consider anything besides stomping on the gas probably. How much does gas weigh, and will running with a next to empty tank help at all?

empty tank helps alot. and my friends is a 4.5 liters it even says it on his trunk. but i still think he can beat you. when my S14 just had a intake, and i sorta raced him. it wasn't an official one. but i gunned out and i bogged alittle. but he tore me off the line, and he stayed ahead by 1 car. and this was when he had a bad tranny. after he had it fixed and i got my exhaust. his car got faster, and my car got much much faster. now i can beat him. but before, i did add the exhaust, we use to be pretty even, and his tires are near bald too. but you never know. tell me what happens.

Dude dont be a jackass. He might beat me, but my car isnt a piece of shit. It way better than these ghetto old caddys rapper wanna be's try to pimp out with gold rims and shit. My car has no rust, the suspension actually works, it will run twice as long as the caddy, and gets much better gas milage. So dont call my car a piece of shit, theres more to cars than how fast they are. And the jetta 1.8t has 150 horsepower, its not that quick, so dont think you're the shit because you beat a 150 horsepower car.

I'm guessing i'll probably lose, but if i win i'll laugh my ass off. 1.6 litre vs 4.5 litre.... man it would be great. Well i'm off to get beat right now. Car just got out off shop getting theft damage fixed, and my friend just got a supercharged bonny, so i want to see how bad he'll beat me. Maybe ill go against the caddy too, ill let you guys know.

haha, for some cars there isnt. But being 16 and working a crap grocery job, im quite limited to how many cars i can own, and how fast i can make my daily driver. Eh, im pretty dissapointed in the bonnie... it doesnt feel any faster than my friend with the se. Although it does have some pretty cool seats that take an hour to adjust.

180 HP Bonneville? What year are you talking about......base engine was 170......and those were definitely underpowered....but if you line up with a Bonneville with 205 HP, or the Supercharged SSEi you'll get your ass handed to you.........I've never lost a race in my '94 Bonneville and i've raced many many many civics, and other ricer cars

I really dont think he is going to kill you. Its going to be closer than people think, i guess it depends on how far you race :) Now if it was a mid-late 90's caddy he would smoke you. I have driven my mom's 97 sls and its pretty damn fast for a boat. 275hp and pretty close torque numbers. I believe its the 4.6ltr northstar. The sts comes with like 300hp. But since its not one of the above i think it will be closer than people think. Let us know

whoops i guess i was wrong, 170 horses... but i rode in a 93 ssei and it didnt seem like it was much faster than the 93 se i beat. Sure it smoked the tires really easy, but i dunno, it wasnt nearly as fast as i expected. We were going to run but he doesnt have insurance yet, so we'll wait. I'm almost positive the bonnie will beat me, but im still skeptical about the caddy. I know any new caddy could smoke me, but this 155 horsepower thing + bad tranny... im not so sure. oh yeah, we'll be running the 1/4 mile... i heard the kids caddy tops out in like the 90's, so i thought about racing him a little farther, but right at 1/4 i shift into 4h, and i prob wont be able to do much at the bottom of 4th. Well enough talk, ill just have to see.

the caddy's speedo tops out at 85mph however, when me and the rest of my friends are racing, the thing keeps up with us when we're doin over 110mph. he has no clue hes goin this fast, but he is. lolz. but anyways please post the results i'm actually pretty interested in seeing whats goin to happen here. and yes the jetta 1.8t is not 150hp. its the 02 model with 170hp. that saves it from being really slow to just slow. lolz

im interested to, whats that new caddys stats that one you see being advertised on tv lately and jetta's are good if you get the VR6 but their still Fwd VW needs to trun their GTIs into Rwd or Awd then i would but one but intil then its going to be STi for me

I'm not sure what the stats are, if its the same new caddy that i'm thinking about. I changed my mind completely on caddy's after my parents bought that one a couple years back. First time i drove it i about fell asleep, talk about a nice ride :D For being such a big car they are pretty impressive, i believe the sts tops out at like 150 or 155?? I don't know if anyone else has seen this or not, but in a magazine once i saw a caddy el dorado with two engines, the normal in the front and an sts motor like where the trunk would be. Front driving the front wheels, rear driving the rear. Since they were different engines they had different shift points, so while one was shifting the other was still accelerating.

listen i dont think im the shit because i beat a jetta. i'm just saying you're a herb for getting a civic. that car isnt going to be anywhere close to fast unless your going to spend a couple of grand on it. but you would be better off buying a new car! and the caddy has a new engine so i think i'll be just fine. oh yea and my dads a mechanic so i guess i dont have anything to worry about. just shut up because your not even on my level.

I heard it from tat and i just had ta see it for myself. I am a neighbor hood friend of tats, just dropped by ta see the beef on civics and caddy's. Well i totally admire your loyalty to your car but it is slow.
compared to many other cars ive driven it must be one of the slowest
and if u need to know how i know this, im a valet parker.
but hey i guess the caddy is around my cars speed if not faster, so if u cant beat a 1990 accord lx 2.2 L u can prob take it.

yeah its so hellish, let me tell ya. Its hell when i'm driving to auto mechanics everyday and i see the kid with the late 60's stang walking to school freezing his ass off everyday because his car is broken down. Sure he could probably beat me in a race, and it must mean a lot to him, cause it sure does suck walking. So yes, i could have gotten a faster car, but its a tradeoff. I will continue to laugh at the fools with quick cars that i catch walking around when their shit falls apart. i get a good laugh everyday how if the domestics even manage to get their car into the shop, theres always something wrong with it. Oh yeah, i dont just hate domestics though, i hate imports too. I see about 1 cool import a week, and about 5,000 stupid riced out ones. Soooo the caddy is like stalling or something, he said he has to work today, so ill ask him again tommorow. i think he wants to get his car fixed first or something, but by then i'll have a decent amount of mods. Yeah i beat him bad, real bad... this is what happened

We couldnt find anyone else to come with us, so we didnt have anyone to start us off, so he threw a popcan out the window and said we'd start when it hit the ground... it hit the ground and bam, my tires gripped so good, but he was a little quicker and beat me off the line for like a second. I pulled on him a little through 1st, passed his car totally through second, and third was just pitiful. I looked back and he looked like he was at least 3 car lengths back. We pulled over and he said "damn good job... but if yout want to race a v8, ill get you a corvette" i said no thanks, but told him good job and all that. I asked him how much i beat him by and he said 20-30 feet. He said he wants to race me again so he can try a new starting method, but he said ill still beat him, it would just be a lot closer. But that caddy didnt even come close to smoking me like everyone said. I think if he drove perfectly we might be about even, but i think ill still have him by a little bit. So blame it on his tranny, bad suspension, whatever you want. The fact is i beat him, and im happy. Sure i cant beat any real cars, but i'll take on the assholes who give me no respect that have cars around the same speed (ie. the caddy). I wish you guys could have seen this, it was great. Oh sorry for earlier bashing of domestics, i agree with you guys, i hate most civics too.

i wouldn't say that you can beat all 4.5's. cause my friends 4.5 caddy will beat you pretty bad. becasue if you beat it by that much, that means you can beat me. becuase i can't even beat a 4.5 by that much. and whats the fastest you've ever hit in that ex of yours? how hard does that little sohc 1.6 liter v-tec have to strain to push that car to even break 100? as i said before. that caddy can easily hit 100 even though the speedo only says 85. basically i'm here to defend my friend, and my friend wants to defend the almight caddy. so hes even willin to race you. from any way. from a dead stop, from a roll, to 100mph. it does not matter to him. and yes i do admit the car is ugly and the interior looks totally 80's but that car is sooo comfortable, even more comfortable then my S14 and my 3.2 TL type S. no joke. its not bad for such an old domestic. so if you live anywhere around ny. then i guess hes willin to drive to your place to show you what an old ugly caddy can do to a civic.

What year and model is his caddy? my friend with the caddy is selling it and buying a cavalier z24... he says that its fast compared to his caddy. I dont have enough time or lack of maturity to bother racing your friend. If he lived anywhere close to me i would probably conisder it just to settle this for good, but your opinions arent too important to me. Besides, hopefully my car wont be slow for long :D What are the specs on your car tat? just curious to see what "it takes" to beat a caddy.

well my car when its stock has 155hp and 160ft lb of torque. i also am rear wheel drive so i can gun out better then any honda that i have raced. the only problem is that when i was stock i would be ahead in the first 2 gears and my top end would hold me back and they will take me on the 2nd half of the race. my engine is more of a torque engine rather then a high rever because my engine has more stroke then bore. after all my mods, i think i'm pushing around 170hp and 170ft lb of torque. the reason why my torque didn't go up as much is because all of the mods i did was to help mid to top end. so now i guess i now only have as much torque as hp. when i used the g-tec meter to time my car. i did 0-60 in 7.93 seconds, and that is with snow tires and with my a/c on. i'm pretty sure i turned it off i can hit mid 7's. i have also beaten a LS with I/H/E that beats stock GS-R's and smokes stock 99 Civic Si's. but i honestly thought i got lucky on that one. lolz if i didn't take him by 3 cars on the launch he would've beaten me. lolz
