My 2004 blows hot air on driver side right after the ac is turned on. Other zones blow cold. Temperature control doesn't change the hot air from coming out on driver nor does turning unit off then on. Only way to fix is to turn car completely off then back on. Dealer already replaced shredder valve (is that the same as the flapper valve??)

Where is this part located within my vehicle?

It is called many things online but no matter the name, the Air temp actuator is behind the glove box against the firewall. It measures the incoming air temp and then adjusts the outgoing air using the hot water from the engine via the heater core. The actuator malfunctions and dumps the hot air into the vents. It was a chore to figure out but I managed to find and replace the offending part. Air works fine. I have since moved onto learning how to change the dash clusters due to speedometer issues with my 04....joy! speed sensors, 02 sensors, oil sending units, speed sending units, and to think I treated myself to this truck after years of driving junk!

Same for me, mine was a present to myself for my 40th! Many issues with steering shaft and rattling noise on the front left side. The ac has been a problem as far as cooling from the first summer I had it. It wasn't until I provided by service advisor with a TSB that they even started to address my concerns (always said they could not duplicate). In October of last year they finally replaced the shredder valave evacuator and replaced the clutvh fan. I see the exact same problem on this site with other 04's and even an 06 where the dealer replaced the drivers side damper motor. I feel like my concern should still be a warranty issue!!

I have made it my personal quest to repair all of these issues myself. It is unfortunate that General Motors is capable to report annual earnings in excess of expenses and I can't afford to have my GM auto repaired. The speedometer repair attempts alone have totaled $1,300 and I ended up fixing it myself.....$250...go figure

i'm having the same issue with my tahoe, now is there only one actuator or is there one for each side? thanks.

Funny you ask this question. My Tahoe was in to service this issue last week. They diagnosed the "right" side actuator and an electrical short and replaced and reset the "actuators" (which to me sounds like there are 2). Unfortunately last night I had hot air again on the drivers side (which is on the left and where the problem has been all along). Guess I will be back in this week. P.S. GM did cover 100% of the repair under "goodwill" (I had 40,000 miles and June was 3 years).:frown:
