94 Acclaim-Help!

I have a 94 acclaim 3.0 liter V6 with around 199,000 miles on it. We replaced the rotor and distributor the other day and now it won't start. It gets fuel and spark, but will not start for anything. Any ideas as to what could cause it? We have tried variations of putting the old rotor on with the new dist. cap, and vice-versa. The old dist. cap works fine.

we had to replace the harmonic balancer this weekend as well and we had to take part of the timing belt off. Don't know if it is just not timed exactly right now or what.

Any suggestions on what to try or what might cause this would be appreciated.

Did you turn the distributor at all? That would cause the car to be mistimed and not start. If you took the timing belt off for the harmonic balancer, and didnt line up the cam and crank correctly, (depending on if you engine is interference or not) you could have the valves pushing against the tops of the pistons.

Interference type engines have the valves positioned where they could come into contact with the pistons. Non interference type dont have this problem.

A trick you could do to tell if your engine is timed is to take a long screwdriver and stick it on top of the spark plug wires or injectors and see if when the engine is turned over if the plug wires or injectors start pulsing. If they take a few seconds you engine is not timed right.
