Why won't my stereo turn off

I just purchased a 2002 grand prix gt, and when I shut the car off the stereo stays on, when I open the driver door. If I open any other door, it shuts off. The door sensor seems to be working because lights turn on when I open the door, and the door indicator on the dash lights up when the door is open. What else can be causing this?

Hi, our cars are designed this way and this feature is called "Battery Saver" And "Retained accessory power". If you accidently leave a lamp, trunk open and/or underhood lights on, they will automatically shut off after ten minutes. Your radio, and windows, etc, will continue to operate for ten minutes after your ignition key is turned to the off position. Opening any door prior to the ten minutes will shut down this feature.

The thing is that it doesn't turn off when I open the driver door.

I see what he is talking about Paul. It is working with the exception of the driver's side door. The sensor in the driver's side door appears to be be good since the interior lights are being controlled properly including door ajar and the body control module (BCM) is receiving the signal, however, it looks like the BCM is not providing an output to the RAP circuits to turn off the radio and power windows.
Since the car was just purchased I would check to see if the previous owner replaced the BCM module and whether it was properly programmed by a GM dealer.

Ok, glad you came to the rescue Bob. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not ashamed to admit I was a little confused there for awhile...lol

Hey Paul. You sounded real good in your explanation to me.
I wish more members would weigh-in on these type problems. The most difficult part is trying to interpret what the poster is saying not being there to see the issue and even I get confused.

The funny thing is sometimes it does shut off when I open the driver-side door. It's very rare though. Could there be some type of short in the wiring?
