Trans slipping?

Hi all,
HELP!!! My 02 Rodeo just started acting up. It acts like the tranny is slipping. On a "normal" tranny, I would first suspect and check for low tranny fluid, but how in the world do I check it on the "sealed" system? It has about 78k miles. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am the original owner and the fluid has never been changed, and the vehicle has never towed any thing, so by the manual, I didn't think it was ready for a change yet. According to the posts I have read here, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I would have the tranny pan dropped and replace the filter. Then refill. This will replace about 50% of the fluid.

Then drive it for awhile and see what happens.

Where is the best place to get a filter and gasket? I have seen some posts that mention that the gasket that comes with the filter is cork and they are prone to leak. I have a Discount Auto Parts and a NAPA near by, do you have any experience with the filters and gaskets they stock?

Is it possible to get under the vehicle far enough to check/fill the trans when it is on level ground? I assume (really hate to do that), that the vehicle needs to be as close to level as possible when checking/filling the trans.

If I do this myself, how much tranny fluid should I expect to drain out when dropping the pan (I want to be sure my drain pan will handle it), and how much flud should I buy. I would rather have fluid left over than have to stop, change clothes (I'm sure this will be messy) and drive to the store to get more fluid. I am the only driver in the household now so I can't just send someone after more fluid.

yes I am, I didn't know it had a 10/120k warranty. I'll have to check the book, or is this the result of some recall??

almost all internal tranny and engine issues are covered by the warranty.

I've read a couple of posts of owners who have slipping issues and Isuzu will just replace the tranny.

FWIW: I buy mine at Advance Auto, where it is $23 more or less. Funny, but I see all sorts of weird (read:high) prices on this part, frequently over $50. It's a Chevy filter, for crying out loud.

My tranny was slipping too (75k on a '01 3.2) I brought it to the dealer. They changed the fluid, filter, pan and gasket, but it still slipped. I went back the next day. They said Isuzu is good in honoring the warranty with their transmissions and will replace it. About 2 weeks later, I had the new tranny installed under warranty (took about a day and a half, so you might have to borrow a friend's car if you need to)
I also had my first tranny service done at the dealer at 60k for just such a scenario. At least they couldn't say I took it somewhere else and they screwed up the tranny, thereby giving me a hassle with the warranty. Sure it cost a few dollars more, but it worked out in the end.
