CD player/Speakers not working right

I have a 1999 ford contour 2.5 se sport. The car has the premium sound system and we installed a dual deck and pioneer speakers in the doors. The problem is that when we turned it up the speaker in the drivers door faded away and now does not put out any sound. Pulled the speaker and installed it in my truck and it works just fine. Put it back in the car and it did the same thing.

Is this a problem with the sound system amplifier? We did hook up the "turn on amp" wire.

Where is the amp located?

I'm no guru, but I take it you didn't bypass the factory amp(behind the glove box) when you installed the new head unit?

Why would this matter?

The stock stereo=pooh. There's nothing premium about it. If you're running an aftermarket head unit, it's more than likely putting out more power than the amp is anyways. Like I said, I'm no stereo guru, but if I had to guess, I'd say running more power into the amp than its putting out may have something to do with your problem. Get the bypass adapter from Crutchfield's and sell the amp on ebay. The "premium" stereo equipment for some reason usually sells for at least the price of a decent head unit.
