Clutch slipping possibly??

I have an 89 civic hatch and when im driving in 3rd gear and i go to get on it, it just revs up like the clutch is pushed in or something, so i drop it into 2nd and it does the same thing, but when i go back into 3rd it stops. My friend said his car did it to but only when it got cold outside. and that has been the only time mine has done it, when its cold. Could it be just cause its cold or could it be the clutch/tranny? thanks for your help!

Sounds like the clutch is going out to me. The only time I have seen weather really effect a clutch is mainly on Hydraulics, but might happen on a cable too.

try to tighten the clutch cable. follow the cable from the cabin to the trans and you should see a knob by the batt. spin it, not sure wich way, to tighten...

Righty tigthy lefty loosy, like any other bolt. You shouldn't have to adjust the cable unless the pedal is engaging too early or too late, but give it a shot. A bad clutch will slip at a certain engine rpm, so if you try revving your engine when in gear and you notice it slipping, you have a bad clutch.

It only revs it when im in gear. it started to do it today, then i let off the gas and got back on it and it stopped.
