ok so i know this might be a little outta place but im gonna turbo my civic and i know i need a missing link map sensor bypass that only allows the sensor to see vacuum. but my question is which style do i need ive see 2. type b being the one for our cars. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Blox-Type-B-Map-Bypass-90-93-Integra-88-91-Civic-CRX_W0QQitemZ280082512806QQihZ018QQcategoryZ33557Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
or style a http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAP-BYPASS-BLUE-CIVIC-PRELUDE-INTEGRA-GSR-B16A2-B18C1_W0QQitemZ300081250168QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3374 2QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Dude just use a small check valve.. why pay for a block of aluminum thatll do the same thing?

when i type is a search for a check vavle those little blocks of aluminum are all that come up. maybe you should enlighten me as to what you talkin about.

how does it work might i ask. the engine isnt exactly my for-tay if you will. im more based on the body side of things.

Its a one way valve, allows only a vacuum, positive pressure will close the valve. However now that I think about it, unless the valve leaks (actually hoping it does) when your engine pulls max vacuum and then goes positive it will hold the pressure at the maximum vac. Which granted, wont throw a check engine light, like you want, but wont let it read perfectly eaither. Basically all the missing link is doing as well.

ahh just a one way valve basically. thats alittle bit more sense.

Literally a one-way valve lol.

so whats the deal with aluminum ones just fancy. and also the ones for 5th gen on up dont seem like that.

The '92 and up ones (style A), goes between the throttle body and the map sensor. Where I believe the other style (style B) goes between 2 hoses, 1 of which is attached to the map sensor. Honestly I'm not all that familiar with the 4th gens enough to know how their map sensors are, other than mounted on the firewall.

They are mounted on the firewall and just fed with a rubber tube, no biggie and very easy to put something inline. while the 5th gen civics have the map mounted to the TB requiring you to bolt the aluminum ones in between.

Why don't you chip your ecu so you don't have to put the check valve on it - the stock map sensor will read up to 11psi of boost (i think it's 11) and with a stock ecu chipped you don't have to add anything except injectors. Why bother faking your ecu into reading something that isn't true. I'd prefer my ecu know how much boost there is so it can help me tune and adjust my fuel maps and timing maps accordingly.

Here is an idea, since your stock map is good for 11 psi, why not forget about a check valve, or missing link all together?

edit, 4g4d is on the ball.

because im using a apexi neo vafc controller because its been theen chipping and its easier to tune with. and well im gonna need it for the mini me built motor.

You still don't need a missing link, as your stock MAP is still good for 11 psi.

The reason why you don't want to go with a missing link is because you are just faking your ecu into thinking there isn't any boost. In turn, what's the ecu going to do, it's going to run everything as if there wasn't boost. There are ways around this with a apexi controller and such, but it's no where near as accurate or stable or reliable. With a chipped ecu, the ecu does all the work, no second guessing stuff. The ecu see's boost and adjust fuel and timing according, not trying to adjust stuff in the blind. Think of the missing link as a blindfold for you when you are driving, you can't see what's really going on, the samething happens when you try and bypass stuff on the ecu, in a sense you are blinding your ecu from your motor. I just ordered my ecu chip last week, I should have it here this week if you want to come over and see how it works and how simple it is to tune. I'm finishing ordering the rest of the stuff for my turbo this week and then the car gets put together.
