I'm driving a 91 rodeo with 130k miles on it. The 5th gear has been out since i bought it last oct for 500$.. the suv runs great starts in -30F weather. the only problem is the 5th gear 1-4 work great its just when i attempt to shift it into 5th its like im putting it in nuetral

how much would it cost to take that to the garage and get it fixed... im praying no more then 120$-150$

It will probably be more........
If this vehicle has an external shift linkage, it may be possible that its something simple in that linkage. However, more than likely, the shift mechanism is all - internal and the trans will have to come out and be disassembled for repair.

$300 would just cover the removal and reinstall, (in a 4x4......a bit less if its 2wd). Any trans repair would be additional $$
I suspect the trans repair would exceed the value of this vehicle. IMO just drive it as - is.

as mentioned, if its 4x4, you're probably looking at 6-8 hours of labor just for R&R, that will well exceed your prefered cost.

If it was me, I'd throw a used tranny at it, but even so, assuming you pay someone to do the work, you'll probably be over $1000 when you're done......you would of course replace the clutch while you were in there.

Something to think about, if the clutch goes tomorrow, you're in the same boat, labor-wise
