GSX 1G, Advice needed

Hello guys,
I have been reading posts from your forum for a while. I am a big fan of Mitsu, and right now, I am interested in buying my first one. It's gonna be 1G GSX.
Since I've never owned a car from this make, I will really need an advice.
So far, I found 2 of them, and I am still wondering which one to get.
The first option is '91 Eclipse GSX (European version), upgraded with 16g EVOIII turbo, o2 housing, everything else is stock.
My second option is '93 Eclipse GSX (US Version), completely stock. The guy says it's '95 but actually this is when the car was first brought and registered in Europe. My opinion, it's gotta be '92 or '93.
The thing is that the second one is about 700$ cheaper. Is it worth it to get the "Euro" beast?
And something else, I am not sure if the US one is with a 6-bolt or 7-bolt block...
What do you guys thing?
Thank you in advance!

The 93 will have the 7 bolt block, as they only put the 6 bolt into the 90-92.5 models... I really don't think there is much of a difference between the US and European models... But then again I am probably wrong. lol
I would just go with the 91 if its not gonna be any problems. Because it already has a better turbo and o2 housing and it has the 6 bolt motor... :2cents:

Yeah I don't think there is any difference between the US and European cars. Infact I'm pretty sure the Euro Mitsu's are direct exports from the states.
But option 1 seems to be the best deal. Has the 6-bolt engine and some nice mods to get you started.
I mean the only thing I could see in a European car would be maybe a right hand drive Mitsu, but that would be mostly a Japanese or UK model of the car, as all of the rest of Europe drives on the same side of the road as us.
Also I applaud you on a well written first post.

Thank you, guys!!!
I really appreciate your help!
The US version that I mentioned is the one with the regular headlights, not the lifting ones. And here in Europe, you can't see them very often.
I think I will go for the first one. Besides all, it's got leather interior :licka:
But the only thing I am worrying about is the oil consumption.
The guy told me it consumes about 1Liter/ 1500 km, which is ...converted to your units around 1gal/2700miles.....which is a bit high, isn't it?
Anyway, it's gonna need a rebuild...

Yes, I am from Bulgaria. But I speak a bit of Deutsch as well, so I got ya :grinyes:
By the way both of the cars are located in Italy, which is 1300 miles from my place. But I don't care, I like this car and I'm goin' for it!!!
Once again thank's for your help, guys!

Well the 90-91 model of the GSX came with flip up lights, even here in the states. the 92-94 came with no flip up lights.
Also if it is burning that much oil sounds like it's time to rebuild it and change those piston rings out.

You just wait till Canada becomes Canamerica, the 51st state! ;)

My guess is its not burning that much oil, check the ground where it was parked and look for oil droplets.
And who the hell would want Canada anyway? All they have up there is cold and "eh?" ;)

Well, the one I am planning to get is 3K (USD). For sure more expensive than it costs in the States. And probably not in that good condition, cause we all know the italians here- they use "drive" and "drop" :grinyes: until it stop....:grinyes:
They never fix. (no offense if there's anyone here, but it's true)
But, man, that's normal. It's damn expensive live here in Europe.

That does sound really expensive. But I can't even begin to say how much more fun you'll have in an eclipse than a euro economy sub-compact hot wheels dinky car. (I think that about summed them up nicely)

Do you guys think the one without the flip-up lights might be with the 6-bolt block?
According to the documents it says it's been made in '93, but when I decoded the VIN, It says '92.

What I'm saying is that the car is with a regular headlights, not the flip up !
According to the documents (the one you call title or pink slip...) the car has been made in '93. But I decoded the VIN using some online decoders in Internet and it says that the car has been made in '92.
Here is the VIN: 4a3ct64u8ne041004
So, what do you think?

steviekHeres how to check
http://www.vfaq.com/mods/early-late-engine.html
im sure there are other ways too
Unfortunately the car is located far away from my place. That's why I am trying to figure out which block I've got, using the VIN if it's possible!
Thank you about this. It's useful info.

Ahhh, I see. Well though it was manufactured in 92, it was a 93 model year. So for all rights and purposes, it is a 1993 car.

So, It's got the 7-bolt block for sure, I guess.

Well not necessarily, if it's an early 93, it may have the 6-bolt block in it because it would have been manufcatured in late 92. And it could have also had a 6-bolt swap done. The only really way of checking is to take a look at the motor itself.

But odds are it is a 7 bolt got any pics of this bad boy? Can you get the seller to send you a pic of underneath the car we could tell you.
Thor06

Its got a 7 bolt. Late 92 production dates are 7 bolt cars, there were no 93 model years that go 6 bolts. The only ones were I think like the first half of the 92 model year cars. IIRC, 6 bolt production ended april of 92. You can check, but I dont count on a 6 bolt.

Yeah, completely true. For some reason I was thinking the other way around, that the 7-bolt quit in early 92 and the 6-bolts started in mid 92, do not ask why I was thinking that, cause I could not tell you.
Disregard anything I said in my previous post. :banghead:

Hello guys,
I finally got my "baby"! It's the older one I mentioned before: '91 GSX AWD
Something that makes me happy is that I am the 2-nd owner of the car. It's in a very good condition, no rust, has never been involved in accident, exactly like the guy was saying.
It's completely stock, except the EVOIII GT turbo replaced an year ago.
As the car has not been driven for 6-8 months, I really think I need to change those piston rings. I have heart good things about RossPistons. What do you think?
Also I think it's the best time to start with the mods.
I am planning to spend 3-4K, as I will do almost everything by myself.
What do you guys suggest?
As I am a kind of a newbie in the DSM's , I would really appreciate your feedback!
Thanks in advance!

I have heard lots of good things about Ross pistons. I know that Magnus Motorsports only uses Ross now. The other 2 big names would be JE or Weisco. It all depends on what you are looking for. Going with the forged pistons and everything I hope you have a good machine shop to get all your clearances right. There are a TON of options open to you though.
What are your plans for the car? Drag? Road Racing? AutoX? or do you want just a good daily driver with some good HP to speed around town?

A good daily driver mostly, around 350-360HP.
Should I go for the pistons as well? How much the stock ones can handle?

You can go with the Stock 2G pistons and use the 1G rods. Those are known to hold 400 and you are pretty well under that.
