i bought a similar kit, kept the tube, threw away the filter, it's junk

the whole thing is a waste though......not a noticeable power difference, and just likely to mess up ur car.

i dont understand how i could mess my car up. I mean all cold air intakes are just a pipe and a filter. right?

oh, ok, i see what your sayin but the majority of people who had or have a cia say that its all bullshit. for the water to get sucked into your intake it has to be completely submerged in the water.

Have you ever driven through a giant puddle when it's raining? Like on the side of the road and you splash water all over the place. That can be enough, even if you're not on the throttle, the intake is still under vacuum. For the minuscule power gain it gives, it is not worth it.

I distincly remember there just being a conversation on CAI and the people who had them in that thread said it was fine, and that puddle thing not really applicaple. But i dunno I do see both sides of the argument I do think probably just a short ram will suffice.

Yup. Puddles are NOT your friend. I sucked in a lot of water when I ran through a huge puddle on the expressway. Luckly I was doing 90. It choked and tried to die but it didnt. I was lucky. Do a search for a post from me talking about a CAI, water logging, and what to do. There's some good information in there.

I say buy it. BUT, look to see where the filter is when it's installed. If it sits close to the splash shield, like on it, cut the pipe and make it shorter. Then just be careful while driving when it's wet. It CAN and WILL do damage if you're not careful.

Here is the before pic. Filter sat basically on the splash shield, mere inches off the ground:

You can see here the after pic of where the filter is. Sits much higher than before:

The new way is still dangerous, but water logging is less likely to happen now because of it. The radiator hides it a lot.

In conclusion, do search for posts about CAI and water logging. It's your car, but don't say you weren't warned.

Holy shit David, your old set up was damn near scrapping the ground. Mine is positioned almost where your current set up is, except mine is pretty much directly behind my radiator fan. I've never had a problem with near hydro locking, and I've driven mine through near flooded Houston highway's, but I always made sure to take it easy and dodge puddles as much as possible. Here's how mine is:

Yeah XeVeNskyLiNE, mine was low as hell. It still sits lower than yours. The bottom of the filter goes just a little past the bottom of the radiator, plus it has the cone on the top, so it can suck up from the bottom.

Well he just wanted to know about the pipe. We've all had this conversation before many times. He really didnt ask a question in the original thread. Just ask what we thought and we told him. He knows the ups and downs. Any problems is entirely on his hands... not us.
