Several problems with my 98 jimmy

Ok, I got a real problem here. If anyone can help I think it will be one of you.

First I have a 1998 Jimmy, Rocky additiion. My problem is my windshield wippers which I have seen that a lot of people have the same problem, but my problem also includes the locks. I took it to the dealership and they said it was in my colum. They fixed it last Feb. at a whopping 1000. +. To my horror, starting this Jan. the wipers started to decide when to work and not work again, and the door locks started clicking again even when the car was turned off. I disconnected the locks so I can not use my automatic door lock, and I put on a lot of rainx. I hate to think that every year I will have to shell out this amount of money just to have the safety for me and my children. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

My second problem is at the same time my 4 wheel drive has decided to turn on as I am going down the street. I end up having to pull over to shut off the 4 wheel drive. This sometime only happens once but sometimes it keeps happing the whole time I am driving. Then there are some days it does not happen at all. I think my jimmy has a mind of its own.

Now I know I did not say this was going to be an easy question to ask, but I sure hope someone here can help and save me from the high cost from the dealership who seems to think that because my jimmy is one year younger, its not their problem.

Any advise and help is greatly appreciated. :banghead:

1. The wiper problem has always been the circuit card in the motor at $50 for a new one and 3 torx screws hold the plastic cover over it drivers side under hood.
2. As for the column they probably did the multifunction switch and anything related to that they should fix for 1 year - ask dealer and if they give you any problems tell them you want the zone rep to review it - talk to the service manager not a writer.
3. As for the 4wd sounds like a wiring probem at the transfer case or loose TCCM (computer ) connector or dirty/wet terminals - its in the pass side cab kick panel.
Good luck!

Have you spilled/splashed any beverages on the dash in the past several months? Just asking...It might be related to the 4WD issue, not the wiper problem.

[QUOTE=Jeannagreen]Ok, I got a real problem here. If anyone can help I think it will be one of you.

I tried a wiper motor circuit board for about $30 at AutoZone. It did not fix the problem although not really a waste of money as the old card was showing age. I've bought a MF switch via eBay and am installing tomorrow. My mechanic said if it wasn't motor circuit board and you can turn the wipers manually (not jambing), then it's going to be the MF switch. The wiper motor circuit board was a good place to start as they are the cheapest part to replace for this problem.
