Gear Swap

Has anyone switched from 3.42 to either 3.73 or 4.10. I want to put a small lift and 33's on, but I don't think the current gearing is right for that. Just wondering if people that have done this before thought it was worth it.

If I were you I would go with 4.10's if your going to go to 33"s. And while you in there if you have the G80 locker, dump that ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Depending on what you have now 2wd or 4wd. You many not need any lift to fit 33's. Probably just a crank or coil spacers. I say go with a 6 inch and run 35's.

Got a question. Have a 2003 Silverado. All gauges have stopped working, tach, speedometer, oil pressure, gas, water, battery. Everything else works. All fuses are okay. What's up and what will it cost.

I would love a 6" lift, but I use the truck for work and have to load heavy items in and out all the time. Just not practical for me. The truck is a Z71 and does have the G80 locker. I've been thinking of replacing it, but not sure which one I should go with.

With only 33's you'd be fine with 3.73's. 4.10's would probably improve your mpg though.

Well as for getting a new carrier to replace the G80, I would go with the Auburn LSD, thats what Im going to accompany my 4.88 gears. You can do Detroit Tru-Trac lsd but your spending more money, the auburn is great value for the money. if you do regear go with a good gear company like Yukon. As for whether to do 3.73's or 4.10's, both would work with 33's, the main reason I would do the 4.10's is ultimately your gonna be happier with the 4.10's (powerwise and mpg wise) and if you ever decided to do a lift in the future the 4.10's would be ok with 35's. 3.73's and 35's likes to downshift up every little hill on the freeway.
If you want to level out your ride, I would look at the Cognito Motorsports leveling kit. Which includes new Torsion bar keys, new upper control arms (that help correct ball joint angle) due to the new angles and I think it comes with new shocks to retain that plush ride.
Hope this helps some and let me know if you have anymore questions
