97 GP transmission

I am having a little bit of vibration when my automatic transmission goes from 1st to 2nd. I checked the fluid and it seems a little dark. Someone told me to see if it smelled bad(not sure why), which it did not have a fowl smell at all. I just got the car a week ago. I have some issues with other things but I have gotten them taken care of.

It would help to post your mileage and which autotransaxle you have. Since you have a '97 model it is most likely a 4T60E. But check your SPID label on the back of the trunk lid and see which GM RPO code is listed. Look for M13 for 4T60E and M15 for 4T65E.

Since you just purchased your Grand Prix and unknown maintenance history the best thing to do for now is a basic tranny service consisting of a pan drop which will replace most of the ATF and the screen filter. I would not have a flush done with that mileage. The reason why we need to know which tranny is the older 4T60E has a vacuum modulator which can affect shifting. The 4T65E is fully electronic and does not have a vaccum modulator.

I finally got to check my code and it stated that I had a M13. I am going to have the oil changed and the pan dropped and filter changed in the transmission. They said it would cost about 150.00. The oil change is only going to cost 12.00 because I got all the stuff.
What do you think it may be?
