I just put a 98 achieva 3.8L trany in a 97 grand prix 3.8. The transmission works fine just isin't the same as the prix's. Does any one know what the final gear is? It seems like it doesn't have the acceleration is used to. Also... I swapped the torque converter with the trany, does any know what the stall is on it? I'm assuming the torque converter and trany were stock on the achieva. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Achieva did not have a 3800 engine, for the final ratio you should look at the rpo codes in the donor car, that trans really should be behind a 3800, also.

What he needs to do is look at the SPID label located on either the back of the trunk lid or spare tire cover and see what his tranny RPO code is. The '98 Achieva has a possibility of two. Either a M13 which is a 4T60E or the MN4 which is a 4T40E. The 4T60E is the bigger more heavy duty tranny.

Hard to miss comparing the two either. I believe the '98 Achieva with the Vin "M" 3.1L engine was delivered with the 4T60E but you never know.

On most Oldsmobiles final drive ratio is 3:05:1, RPO code F83.
