325is transmission issue need help

I just replaced the clutch, to bearing, etc on my 1987 325is. After reassembly & test I could not get the transmission into REVERSE OR FIRST GEAR.

I don't feel any pressure in the linkage that tells me I am engaging.

I am about to remove the transmission again, argh!

Is there anything I am missing before doing this again.

Unfortuneatly I do not know if this was a problem before the clutch went bad or was caused by my son trying to get it home?

are the rear wheels off the ground so that you can spin them a bit to allow engagement of 1st gear? Are you sure the clutch was bad not 1st gear? How about 2nd gear?

Is the clutch cylinder fully bled, and do you see it actuate (push the clutch fork) when the clutch pedal is depressed?
