Hey guys, I know this is the wrong manufacturer but this is the only forum I trust, plus the guys in the mitsu forum won't answer me :) Anyhow, I had a few questions. I found a 95 Eclipse GS-T for sale with 102k on it and I think I can get it for about $5000, I was wondering what all I would need to check as far as mechanical reliability goes, I'm new to the whole turbo game. This is going to be a project car but I also have to drive to school 3 times a week and that's 100 miles round trip. What would be involved in getting the turbo rebuilt, and approximate cost? Would I be better off just upgrading the turbo, or maybe buying a used oem turbo with low miles? Also, if I get the car I'll be getting the engine rebuilt relatively soon, what all should I have done while I have it opened up? Thanks for the help guys, if this guy will come off the price a little, I'll post pics when I bring her home :D

you can get turbos rebulit for about 200 bucks, or just buy the rebuild kit, do it yourself for about 75. quite easy to do. check turbo for shaft play, and smoking, burning water, oil, etc. best bet would be to take to a mechanic, he will check out the whole car for 75 bucks, and tell you the condition of the motor.

be sure to listen for faint knocks 2nd gen's had crankwalk problems and quite a few of the dsm guys i chill with have thrown rod bearings. also buy a box of about 100 lifters because they all have lifter taps, i havent seen one yet that didnt. be prepared to shift slowly....i think thier trannies are worse then jdm honda trannies when it comes to grinding. and if you plan to build the motor dont expect to hook up well in a gs-t. 2 out of the 6 dsm guys i hang with traded thier gs-t's in on gsx's in disgust from traction problems. lastely talk to the people at buscher, extreme and forced performance if you want to make it fast. they are easy as hell to make quik....just to many problems for my taste though. oh by the way if your the first couple things i would recommend if you get one is an intake, a turbo back exhaust, a walbro fuel pump and a boost controller. with just those mods most of our crew ran high 13's. and as for a turbo rebuild dont even bother you can find big 16g's on ther dsm trader all day for a couple hundred more. shit my boy just found a 20g (which doesnt fit the stock manifold) for a little over 400 practically brand new..

I don't know if thats worth it...The factory installed turbo systems seem to be pretty good, its better than the bolton job with no turbo controllers or anything. But with 103k and the laundrylist of potential risks ric is telling you about, I would second think that $5k of yours
