Lower coolant hose replacement 98 LT

Hey -

I see my lower coolant hose (passenger side) is showing signs of wear. I want to replace it, but it's been about -10 degrees lately here so I havent had the nuts to stay out in the cold long enough to do the job.

Here's a question...if you were going to try to replace it quickly without having to drain the whole system.....how would YOU go about making the quickswitch?

I'm thinking if I get the new hose in there all lined up, and slide the retaining ring, and hose clamp up over the hose and against the radiatior port and on the other end against the coolant pump port, that I should be able to make a quick switcher-oo with both sides and lose a minimal amount of coolant in the process. Slide the clamps back over and snug up...Then just fill whatever I lost afterwards.

Anyone else have a better idea? (again, I dont have use of a garage at the moment and water freezes immediately outside its so cold right now.) If I had the lux. of a heated garage, I'd take it slow...pop open a beer...drain it all out...refill it....etc. But I don't so..........what do ya think?

There is no way you aren't going to get your coolant everywhere. If you don't want to get blasted, just take it to a shop and have them refill everything.

Yeah, it always is a mess. But I've been done trusting "shops" for a long time now. Unless its a trusted friend doing the work for the shop...you NEVER know what they did, how well they did it, and if they ruined anything else in the process.....

and its ALWAYS over priced. I think I'll throw a piece of tubing on the radiator drain to direct it into a container....if you don't you have it everywhere even when draining. I never understood that idiotic design of draining. It comes spitting out, and hits EVERYTHING in its path...so you're left throwing rags, catch pans, and anything else underneath the 20 different drip points instead of one clean path.

anyone know the full coolant capacity for a 98 Blazer?
