I have an 02 ram 1500 4dr 4x4, only mod is up 1 size in tires and kn air filter. My problem is my abs brake light came on last week while driving through Colorado, I stopped and checked wheels none were hotter than any other (had been driving for 8hrs) like a caliper was hung up, fluid is full, had wife push on brake pedal and when she released brake lights stayed on, I turned truck off and lights went away, now a week later ,after driving back from Co., lights came back on, I stopped again no heat, turned off truck, lights went away for a bit then came back on. Other threads talk about a speed sensor or anti lock sensor (rwal) on top of rear diff may have gone bad but these all reference older trucks than mine and also talk about speedo going out also but havent noticed this, yet. Wondering if this will still be the same for the 02 I have or if there may be something else to check out.

checked the wires and if ok. removed the connector and check the
resistance of the sensor. also make sure you abs module connector has no water intursion

I have an 01 and I had the same problem. It is gonna be the speed sensor which is like you said on top of your rear pumpkin. Its an easy swap for a new one. The part should cost about $40-50 at a dealer. All you need to do is remove the connector and then use a socket to back out one screw.

If that does not fix the problem (90% of the time it will) but in my case it did not b/c I had bad clutch pakcs which are inside the pumpkin. Way to check that is to open up the diff and change the fluid. Look for broken pieces of anything. I had broken everything on the inside of mine and it was screaming loudly at me a high pitch sound as I drove.

Hey thanks guys, that is what it sounds like, and hopefully won't hurt anything for a bit, have had 6 inches of snow in last couple of days and no where to pull in to change for a couple of more days, that is where I will start and hopefully it will take care of it, if not I will be asking more questions.:grinno:

the best thing you could do rather than guess and throw parts at it is, get it scanned by a abs computer at a dealer or local shop. Not always will it be the abs sensor. Have any of you looked for TSB's on this issue?

Or what you can do is just pull the dash and pull the bulbs and leave it go and not have ABS.
