I have an 01 Z71 Silverado. I was wondering if anyone new any fixes for these problems. The chirp noise come when taking off from a complete stop or hitting a bump at slower speeds. I have been told this is the yoke the goes into trans case. Could i may be grease this or something. Next is the clunk... This happen at slow speeds when you let of the gas then accelerate again. I have been told that this is slop in between the gears in your transmission. They say all these trucks do it but i know that is not true. Anyways both of these little things will drive you crazy if you got any fixes i would appreciate the help. Thanks

Search this forum for "clunk". Could be universal joints or like the problem I had the rear end gears have worn. Was told the gears GM uses are soft or of a cheap metal. Check for play in the rear end. Have a freind switch the transmision between forward a reverse and observe the end of the driveshaft where it ataches to the rearend. When I blew my rearend I had about 1" of play. Now the driveshaft barely moves.

This is common for GM 4x4 trucks. Even Tahoes and Saburbans. I have a '99 Z71 and a 2001 Tahoe and both do it to some extent. The truck is worse than the Tahoe but they both do it and everyone I know that has a GM vehicle like these have the same problem. I "crammed" a whole deflated raquetball into the yoke and then put the driveshaft back in. The raquetball acts a "spring" and makes the driveline tighter. It took almost all the clunk out of my Z71.
