You have to look at several different things when getting a car. First is how much is the car and can you afford payments. Then what is your insurance going to be. If you get your license at 16 and have to have full coverage on a 02 SS camaro you are going to be paying a lot of money just for insurance. Then take in to account the rising gas prices.

Some insurance companies will not even insure minors to drive high performance cars. If you end up getting one more power to ya just keep the rubber down.

yea, i hadnt even thought of that when i was responding.

that is a very bad combinaiton. you WILL makes mistakes on your first car. while your playing around or whether its just an accident caused by someone else. learning to avoid accidents and problems is something that comes with experience over years. (I went thru 3 cars initially when I was younger and I am/was a damn good driver. None of the problems were cause by me being silly).

Insurance is going to rape you! I'm still getting ripped a new one and I'm 25 and havent had any speeding tickets in the last 4-5years.

I would suggest a mid-90s civic, accord, eclipse, etc. Because you can modify them easily, have fun, get some practice in, and not get raped by the insurance companies.

Chew on that.

SS only comes w. the LT/LS V8..if you want the 4th gen. however, i agree with everyone else. even if you are a good driver it takes a while for you to pick up the driving habits of people around you, such as if they're gonna lane change (Without signaling cuz some bastards dont know how to drive)... and so on. I would recommend a V6/8 3rd gen just cuz its cheap and relatively the same size as a 4th. go buy a 3rd, save some money..and get a 4th gen. if you're in it for speed, dont but a V6 4th gen. they're fun but not FAST. if you just like the looks tho, hell, go for it.. and well, i guess you CAN make them run fast/faster then a V8..

oh., and if you just want the SS look, you can buy a hood + spoiler + rims and from the outside it will look exactly like a SS.

a 3rd generation (1982-1992) Camaro is the style that I and blownalcoholboy have in the pics on our signatures... (look at our post on this page).

yeah i would definately recommend a 3rd gen either firebird or camaro. But beware of those rear-wheel drive cars, I just put my 91 firebird on the road back in january and I've already gotten stuck 4 times so definately be careful in the snow ( if you have any)

I'd recommend a 2 Gen Maro, but then again I'm prejudiced. You can pick up a 79 - 81 in excellent condition for between 4k and 8k, and since it's older your insurance won't be quite as bad. Depending on what state you live in and their restrictions, you can even qualify for classic tags which helps lower your insurance, AND will sort of make you keep it nice and tame. If you're dead set on a Camaro, that's what I would do, but there are many more reliable cars out there, and for a first daily driver type vehicle I think you should look at more than just Camaros & Firebirds (F-Bodies), especially considering your age (insurance), gas prices, and the amount of work an older Camaro will require because you can make a pretty safe bet that it's probably been abused.

I would suggest looking at other stuff other than camaros and firebirds...I just got my lincense a year ago. I have a 92 firebird....i havent smashed her yet...but i have had a coulple close calls....they r hell in snow...and the insurance is very pricey....and gas prices dont help much...

That last one looked a little negative... i love my firebird...but i would actually suggest a v6...or something that would bring insurance down a little...

hell wont nobody write him a policey for a 90 nothing v8....im sorry. the insurance would be more than the car note..and im sure his parents havent started smoking crack yet...i remember asking my dad if i got a 5.0 could i go on his insurance..maaaaan i thought he was gonna die from a heart attack from the laughter! and in va back then u had to be 18 or oldr to own a 5.0 mustang...gotta love the commonwealth of virgina smh. between me and all my friends who all have been driving for almost as long as u been alive we all have been through 5 camaros and trnas ams.... one good wet rainy day, and thats your ass while turning to fast! get a honda kid!

only bad things about having a third gen as a first car is that they dont have abs and they love to hydroplane. the insurance was not horible for me though (IROCZ with 305 and 5 speed). if you are ded set on a camaro for your first car i would suggest you get a 4th gen v6.

goldz28

If you get a 4th gen v6 get the 3.8l and not the 3.4l

they love to hydroplane.
That's got nothing to do with the car. That is poor tire design.

Stock they dont have much, a little modding you have yourself a car......
Hydroplaning on a 3rd gen isnt a bigger problem than the average car......I should know...I have one.....
Now cornering in the rain.......in my humble opinion, these third gens dont spin out on every turn in the rain, but they can .........as im sure weve all done it at least once, whether on purpose or not.

In this case i would probably chose the V6 4th gen because insurance........

There.....Im through.......

I'm not sure about that, my car is pretty darn good in the water.. i was actually surprised but it's because of my tires, they were rated awesome in water... and what is this about everyone telling the youth to buy a honda?!? That reminds me about how Honda was screwing all of their lease owners because of their odometers that read more miles than you actually traveled.... he should atleast get a cobalt or something like that....

I've owned my '85 IROC for its entire 22 year lifespan and once I found good tires for it I've never had any problem with hydroplaining or its "ass" going around on me. If you hit the throttle hard on ANY rear wheel drive car with a fair amount of power, going around a corner is going to cause it to swap ends.
