How many are snowed in?

Last night at 6pm, my college, UAlbany, cancelled wednesday's classes before they even saw one drop of snow. Later I heard it's supposed to snow, on and off into Friday. This was unbelievably incredible since I still had not seen a flake till about ...10pm, that's when the shit hit the fan. I've got no idea how many inches we have in Albany NY currently but it's been snowing nonstop and we're all snowed in!!!
Only a few brave souls remain on the snow packed streets, who knows what for.

Here in central VA, all we got was rain and a little ice on the windshield this morning.

"Not I", said the Fly.
I spent the day driving around trying to get stuck. I'm sure most were frustrated, but I had fun thrashing though snow piles and trudging down unplowed streets. I even helped a few people who were blocking some of the major roads.
4x4 kicks so much ass. Unfortunately, I did get stuck after about 4hrs of aimless driving. It wasn't a big deal, it simply took some rocking to get free.
After that, I was getting pretty hungry. So I went to Quiznos, then drove home. My only real complaint was the windshield wipers, I had to periodically stop because they kept icing up (suggestions?).
In the end, I drove away with a better understanding of the full capabilities of my vehicle.
It was a pretty interesting day. I hope this snow continues, considering I have exams tomorrow.

i was actually quite surprised last night when it started snowing here in New Mexico. We don't usually get a lot of snow, but this year we have gotten more than we have in the past 10 years. Two days ago i was walking around in shots and a t-shirt. this morning i wake up and classes were canceled. we only got maybe four inches. but when it never snows people freak out if there is anything wet on the ground.

no you do not. If a little rain and ice on the windshield was all i had, i wouldn't be spending Valentine's day in my room listening to music and cleaning up, i'd be much, much more entertained.

My parents live about 2 hours west of Albany, they said as of an hour ago they had 3 feet.
I however live in northern VA. We had about 2 inches of ice this morning and everything was shutdown (including my job). So I slept in then went out driving and having fun. I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of my new Blazer in the icy mix. I just wish it was as fun to drive it in nice weather:rolleyes: .

So when are the scientists gonna start predicting global chilling?
I definitely wouldn't mind some snow in Dallas. I just gotta find some hot chicks to wrestle with in the snow.

Have about 2 1/2feet in my backyard,(Syracuse). The Weather Channel was in the city all day with live updates. Just waiting for the other "shoe" to drop in the next couple of days as lake effect snow takes over to add to the total, as this storm goes into Canada and sends arctic air across Lake Ontario in it's wake.

About max 8 inches in some areas up here in Northwest NJ, Hope/Blairstown, where my school is.
Here's some pics I took earlier today after the storm. Finally get some credible snow fall...it's about time. But for most of the storm, it was sleet and most of the accumulation was sleet.

And here at Blair, we don't have bloody snow days since majority of the faculty live on campus. So basically it's tough luck for the kids who are day students. Good thing though was that my first block class was cancelled because my teacher is one of few who don't live on campus, and couldn't make it. So needless to say, I had a nice sleep-in.

^yup, that's pretty much how my town looked. That snow, you think its nice and fluffy... no. You can walk ON it, your foot won't sink through. Thank the combination of snowfall with sleet and ice rain. Everything in our area pretty much paused for the day, anybody out probably ended up in an accident.

... My only real complaint was the windshield wipers, I had to periodically stop because they kept icing up (suggestions?).
I've tried keeping the defrost on high and having different washer fluid, but if it's cold enough it will ice up. I've found that opening your driver's window and lifting the wiper as it comes by (letting it thunk back on the windshield) keeps the worst of the ice off. Eventually you've got to get out to clean everything though.

 I live in Syracuse, I'll send you all you want! I was supposed to leave for Florida today to spend the week there but had to cancel because of all this snow. Usually that amount does not affect us as much but this last storm wasn't lake effect, rather the snow had more moisture in it from the Gulf and Atlantic Ocean. It was like shoveling 3 feet of wet sand. I took some pics and hope to get them up later. Will try for Florida in early April when the kids have the week off again weather permitting:grinyes: . We are running out of places to put the snow. Some areas put the snow in the park or vacant parking lots, and it usually melts by July. They are saying that it could take until August this year to melt the super sized piles:eek: .

Wow, been over a year since I have been on the forums. Hey Dyno, whats the forecast for Friday? I am making a trip up there Friday morning for the New York State Wrestling Tournament at the Times Union Center. I shall be departing Binghamton at 6 AM. No snow would be nice.
We got nailed down here the other week ago with 18 inches. I know thats the usual for you guys, but it's rare when we see that much snow here.
