So a few of my friends and I were sitting around shooting the BS about our cars one night. We decided to set up a race between the '87 MR2 and '94 Celica ST. I was supposed to be the camera car, but they agreed to let me in on the race if I would go from a 30mph roll in 2nd gear (waay out of my Lift engagement). Here are the cars and stats:
'01 Celica GT-S (intake, unbolted stock exhaust w/ 2 passengers.)
'87 MR2 (intake)
'94 Celica ST (intake, exhaust)

Yeah you could definately tell you were at the bottom of top gear considering he stuck right with you until got in upper part of the powerband, then it was a goold ol' fashion ass kickin. Nice race.

I ran a 14.7 @ 95mph when I was bone stock. With the intake and unbolted exhaust I should be in the 14.3-14.4 @ 98-99mph area.

Thats a pretty good time for stock. I didnt think those celicas were that quick. I will be on the lookout for one to run. Should be pretty close since I ran a 14.8 @91 mph...
I can drive my car alot better now then when I was at the track so I think I can do a little better with some practice launching.
There is a 1/4 mile track in Xenia, Ohio that has its first test & tune on the 24th of this month. Its about 1 1/2 hour away but I am going to do my best to get there. From what I was told people knock 2/10's off there time then at NTR because of better track prep...hope the snow is gone by then

With an NA celica, no offense, but I think you may actually lose power unbolting the catback. You are losing any scavenging effect of an enclosed exhaust, as well as the velocity of hotter exhaust gases. On a turbo car it's different...but I think you are honestly losing a decent chunk of low end power by doing that. So, that paired with an intake...may not be netting you as much of a gain as you think. Short of shedding a 1/10 for weight reduction...

Yeah more then likely Vip lost power. Ehh, he'll find out when he hits the 1/4 mile track :D

I lost a little low end, but honestly.. I don't use the low end when I'm racing. I stay between 6800rpms and 8400rpms while racing. The top end gains greatly outweigh the low end loss. I'm not running open header.. the exhaust unbolts under the rear suspension. There is a pretty good amount of piping. (another 2.5 feet of piping and it would be coming out at the rear bumper)

basically hes running half and half....on all motor high revers you do lose alittle bottom but like he said when he races he stays within power band which really bottom end doesnt take a large toll....
