Emission regs

I am contemplating putting headers in my 84 monte with a 350. However, I keep getting stories that it may be illegal due to emission laws. Do I need to keep the AIR system in tact and install headers with the air tubes OR; if I put a newer engine in (say a 95' 350 crate engine with fuel injection and ECM) do I still need to install the 1984 emission system?

The best thing to do is do a little research into your particular state's emission regulations, or speak with someone at the place that tests emissions in your state. California has some of the toughest emission laws out there so it might be worth your while to get an answer from an authority, such as the agency that oversees the regulation and enforcement of emission laws.

Some headers meet CARB (California Air Research Board) approval and can be installed while meeting emissions rules.
As noted above, check your state's laws, but most states accept CARB approved headers, so long as you reinstall all original emissions equipment so they work as intended.
