I have a Toyota 4x4 Dlx pickup with Extra Cab manual transmission with an 22 re engine. I'm getting a squeeking noise from the speedometer cable. I have removed the cable from the speedometer and still getting the noise.
I need help on what is involved. I believe i just need to disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission, pull the old cable out and insert the new cable and screw it back in.
What type of oil do i use to lubricate the cable before putting it back in and connecting it to the transmission?
axle grease
motor oil
other?
I'm checking things out before I start to pull things apart. I need to drive before I start this. Sounds like a 30 minute job to disconnect cable, pull old cable, lub new cable, insert cable and reconnect to the transmission.

It's not real easy to lube a speedo cable, but you will need something very thin to do it, like "3-in-1 oil" (at hardware stores and home centers).
Not WD40, it's not meant for lubrication even though people use it for that.
