my headlights went out on my car. if i turn the switch on the running lights come on but thats it. and then if i pull the switch back like im going to dim or brighten the lights they come on but when i let back off they go off. its not a fuse or a breaker so it almost has to be the switch
my question is how do you change it and bout how long would it take

Welcome to AF.
I would say it is likly your multi function switch(MFS).
Here is a link (http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/0e/5a/56/0900823d800e5a56.jsp)that will assist you.
Just remember to pull the Air Bag fuse

Some times the contacts inside the MFS get fuzzies in there and cause intermitant problems.
You can pull it aprt and try to clean it out but eventually it'll need replaced.

and if i went through the trouble of takin it apart i would prolly go ahead and change it so i dont have to go through it again later, it sucks havin to hold the lever back to have headlights at 1 am on the way home from work

tonto20_05,
Since it only works when you hold it back, I'd just replace that MFS. :grinyes:
