Hello, I'm new to the forum and I need to diagose an engine problem. My son's pickup won't start. It is not cranking correctly. In the old days it sounds like it is a timing issue. It cranks a few times and hangs. I am detecting a fuel smell. I just started on this truck so I don't have much info. I will check fuel pressure tonight. The check engine light is on but it has been on ever since we purchased this truck about a year ago.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance

Welcome to AF. Get the code of course, got spark? check fuel pressure, could be the injector unit is leaking, common issue here.

Per your advise, I checked fuel pressure which was good, injectors were working correctly. I was looking through all the post and one stood out. It was wet and this guy's truck would not start. I checked the distributor and rotor. It was corroded and had all kinds of green junk on the contacts. Also the screws were rusted so it appears moisture did indeed get into the cap. I replaced the cap and rotor and problem is fixed.
Thanks again for your help. Your posts saved me all kinds of time. Sometimes I miss the rotor, points, condensor days but I guess the new technology is better in the long run.
