intermittent olds regency

My olds starts intermittently and stops at anytime. After much frustrating testing I concluded that the fuel pump was bad when I measured 12 volts
at the wiring harness fuel pump connector and the fuel pump would not run when connected. At this time I had replaced the fuel pump relay and verified that the PCM does pull in the fuel pump relay.After installing the new fuel pump I had the same problem. More testing revealed that the fuel pump ran only part of the times it should have run. Has anyone had a similar problem? Has anyone experienced any problem with the electrical connector at the fuel pump? When I connected the connector on the wiring harness to the fuel pump connector I was surprised at the very poor design of the male and female pins in both halves of the connector. Could the connector pins mate and separate from vehicle vibration?

Welcome to AF, have you confirmed that you loose 12v at the pump when it dies, good ground in the harness for the pump? Please post year also.

Even though you have 12 volts going to the fuel pump you need a good ground to complete the circuit. The fuel pump grounds at one of the ground bus connectors near each of the front door sills. I believe the fuel pump grounds on the driver's side but check both. Here's a pic showing the location on a 90 Bonneville - your car should be similar.
