i started noticeing this when it started to get real cold up here in mn, but almost everytime i turn off my jimmy then come back later and start it up again, the trip resets. i haven't checked that batt, but it cranks the engine just fine, even when it was -14 out. any ideas?

I have the same problem
the garage tells me its a wiring harness It needs replacing about 500 bucks.
im hopeing its the weather im in winnipeg so minus 40c is about the winter temp here
I have had 3 fuel pumps go in the last 4mths too but the garage tells me its nothing to do with the wiring harness.
im thinking it is due to a short

Just a shot in the dark, but does your radio time reset as well? May just be your battery.
Why would something short only after it sits? Doesn't make logical sense. If it is a short, it should reset when you hit a bump, etc. If it's a related to your ignition, should reset when u turn your ignition off.

see thats whats so confusing, my clock doesn't reset, its just the trip. also, if it was the batt, i would think it would have trouble starting the morning but it does just fine. so maybe its ultra sensitive to voltage or what, but it makes finding my mpg hard to calc...BAH!

Well, I would think it's one of 2 things -
- a faulty trip odometer (ie: problem in your "reset" button)
- a short
See if you can get hold of a wiring diagram for your truck. It may be a loose connection...
