my son-in-law changed water pump on husbands 95 jeep.it's now making noise like it needs oil and every few minutes knocking,it don't need oil.no oil in antifreeze,no antifreeze in oil, power steering leaked in stream until empty.does this mean it's the rod?

A little unclear on what you're saying. Got the water pump changed.
Where is the knocking sound coming from? The water pump?
Did it make any noise prior to the water pump being replaced?

I've had a few water pumps make noise after being changed, usually because they didn't have water in them. Make sure the radiator is full, and put the Jeep on an incline with the front end 6" or so higher than the rear (curbs work great). This will allow any air bubbles in the system to float towards the radiator. Let it get good and hot, so that the thermostat opens a couple times, and keep the radiator filled. You should see the water in the radiator circulating, and some steam as the hot water comes through. If there are bubbles, the water level will drop. After about 1/2 hour you should be good.
(I'm thinking that you've already checked the other fluids)
