I just finished replacing mine couple of weeks ago but, for a 97.
There is a bracket directly behind the blower motor that you need to remove (2 nut hold it in place 14 mm if I remember right) Just becarefull it has the temperature sensor cable attached. There a panel that holds your cars electrical system above the blower motor that is incased, remove the cover and you will see the modules and such. You need to disconnect the battery to remove power and open to bolts (2 bolts) that holds the entire assemlby to move the module casing aside to allow you to place in the new blower motor. That should help out as long as the 98 is the same set up as the 97.

I Have A 95 Bonneville. I Just Replace My Blower Motor About A Month Ago. I Also Removed The Cover On The Firewall Covering All The Relays And The Bracket On Back Of The Motor. I Just Let This Bracket Hang But Did Unclip The Fuel Lines From It. If You Have A Shroud Over The Engine Held By The Oil Fill Cap, Remove It Too. I Also Removed The Cross Member Bar The Goes Across The Top Of The Engine To The Strut Towers. After This The Old Fan Came Right Out And New One Fit In Easily. The Only Problem I Had Was The Plastic Around The Blower Housing Was So Brittle That When I Pull The Vent Tube Loose The Whole Nipple Broke Off. I Just Used Black Rtv Silicone To Glue It Back When I Put On The New Fan. Good Luck
